I have always gone by what it says under the Region column.  If it says UK you can claim it but not if it says anything else.  But as Paulette says you need to tell Alamy not to claim on your behalf if you want to do it yourself.

If it says 'UK' anywhere - put it in your submitted spreadsheet! DACS can always decide not to include it, but you can't go back to add it!

    ...until next year  that is!

It is my understanding that you have to tell Alamy not to claim for you. They do that as the default these days.

Thank you all for replying, very helpful indeed.

  2. I have a question re DACS claims. It's my understanding that it can only be claimed for books, magazines and TV publications within the UK.

From the sales report, how do I work out where the magazine or book was published? Would it be under license details or the region column?

I've had a few magazine/ book licenses where under license details it states 'Country: worldwide' but then under Region it states 'UK'. Will those be included in the DACS claim?

    Thank you.

  4. I personally don't have any issues with it but I think some other contributors have had problems like this.

If you search the forum, you'll find some discussions about this, as for example here.

Not sure whether there is a solution to the issue but you could always email the Contributor Relations team to make them aware of it.

Put BHZ as a supertag in one RM image for every pseudo you have.  Wait a day.  Search "BHZ" for relevant RM images (I use 120/page).

Find the page the image is on.  The higher, the better your rank.

My best pseudo remains on page 3, second pseudo on page 10, and my dregs pseudo is on page 12.  Has been for more than a year now.  Image position can move around a bit, but rarely more than a line difference.

Just out of curiosity, does it have to be an RM image or could one choose an RF image? Would there be a difference in results?

  7. Your image appears a little further down the article with credit given to your name and Alamy.

I haven't got a paid subscription with the Times but I did sign up for a free short term trial in the past so maybe you can do the same.

I would send you a screenshot but I'm not sure how I can send it to you through this forum.

  8. I think it can take a long time for zooms to turn into sales. And some zooms never turn into sales as well as there are some sales that have never been zoomed.

I've had one image licensed in April this year which was zoomed last year August (although it might not be related) and one image licensed in June which was zoomed in January. So it can take several months between a zoom and a sale showing up.

But then I've also had a sale which was zoomed the day before but I think that's pretty rare.

Looking at the shape of the leaves and the way the flowers droop in the truss I'd say it's either Rhododendron williamsianum or Rh.orbiculare or a hybrid with one or both of those species blood in there.  There are quite a few of these hybrids around and I can't be more specific from that photo.

Thanks very much for your reply John, that's very helpful.

I will look into the hybrid versions to find out more about it.
