  1. That is an excellent idea. Access to the PA news diary, for example, would be a great help. I spend many hours just standing in DownIng Street on the hope of “catching” events. There are no toilets, refreshments or shelter. Quite often I do catch visits etc bt I miss far more than I catch and I could be much more productive if I had a news diary or listing. As Phil said this is quite London centric but there is a vast amount of national news activity in Westminster and the surrounds.

  3. I note your comments. My post was based on both Matt Granger and Ricci talks you tube videos on the subject of the Z9, memory cards and various tests.. Clearly these are pre production Z9 bodies. Until we have production models in a real world environment all we have to go on are these tests. My post was also written in the context of the original post about failing CFexpress cards. Also I would guess that when you say you have used XQD cards for video in various Nikon cameras you are not referring to the Z9? Also, and I will admit that my statistics knowledge is a little rusty
  4. CFexpress card failure is a concern as this is the recommended card for the Nikon Z9 which I am planning to buy in 2023 when it will actually be available in the UK. I know it takes XQD cards, which I use all the time with no issue, but, apparently, they are not fast enough or overheat when used for video or the full 120fps for low res jpegs. Although I cannot see that I would be using 120fps...

  6. I take photographs that I hope will sell. They are not great, some are even not good. The final and true arbiter is the market. As some economist said, “the value of anything is the price someone is willing to pay”.

  10. Cal, that is exactly what I use on a daily basis. One other approach is to use a reverse image search on any photos zoomed. Google images works OK. Alternative, as a news photographer I use “Matt Hancock Alamy” -Alamy.com (for example) to see if any of my Matt Hancock pictures have been used. These techniques don’t always work if the picture is behind a paywall and it does , for some reason, throw up some false negatives.

  12. I don’t know, The picture sold recently, (21st May 2021) although it was taken in June 2019. The usage has only just shown up in my search algorithm on that website. Perhaps a relaunch/rebranding? I got paid (a pittance) so I not really bothered….

  16. Exactly right. As a largely news shooter I have bad days (most of the time) and good days. I enjoy what I do, I have a fair understanding of what sells and plug away week after week. On occasion I get a surprise when I get a reasonable fee for an old news image. When I stop enjoying it then I will give up.

  20. I am with you on this. I am shooting much the same news as I always have and it is more difficult to find. In addition, in my world the newspapers don’t appear to be buying as much and paying less.... My issue is do I continue with what I have always done, and until recently judging by sales, quite successfully, or do I push myself into new stuff without knowing it will sell? I did a gallery shoot today, but so did a lot of other Alamy contributors. It is about finding a new area, time to get creative I guess...

  23. There is, as far as I am aware, nothing to stop you taking a screen shot of the press release and then using your own social media to publicise the usage I do this all the time with newspaper usage of my photos.
