  1. Many thanks. My dad will be pleased his garden made it into the papers, (even if it was a story about greenfly)
  2. Many thanks. I wasn't planning to get down to bacteria level but I've had enough of trying to stop a large collection of extension tubes wobbling. I'll do a bit or research. Thanks again.
  3. This is a topic I've been wondering about for a while. Does anyone who does this have any recommendations for a suitable microscope - not hugely expensive - that can be attached to a Nikon?
  4. I use the Nikon 105mm a lot for insects and studio work - it's a great lens.
  5. Better than Jan-Apr. Not good exactly, but an improvement. As for cleared balance, however......
  6. Do you think I should stop wearing that plastic souvenir helmet then? The one time recently that I've been approached by a protester was one who was worried about being traced with facial recognition programs.
  7. Not only is it a public space, but most protesters are there for the sole purpose of getting publicity for a cause. If there were no media there, what would be the point? I've covered many really huge marches through London that didn't make it onto the TV news print media is the only coverage they're likely to get. Most protesters I've encountered are more than happy to pose for photos - even when you don't want them to. Just try not to look like you're working for the police.
  8. A slight digression from topic, but has anyone noticed more weekend sales being reported? I've had a few PU sales pop up from time to time but there seem to be more 'normal' uses being invoiced on Sat and Sun.
  9. I've noticed over the last two months that 'sales' (ie uses invoiced) have kept up well - this is the best month for a while. No doubt this reflects the time delay from selection - use - invoice so we are seeing sales from before the Virus. But cleared payments are certainly down.
  10. I came to view this discussion expecting it to be about "Are You Shooting More or Less in the Lockdown?" rather than semantics. Might I suggest that getting worked up about the language used is a bit like those who take more interest in equipment than actually taking / making / shooting / forging / snapping / creating photos of things?
  11. Less and different. I'm stuck in Kent and haven't been to London since the start of the new era, so doing no news (apart from 1 almost news image yesterday) and lots of garden birds - I know for a fact I am not alone in that! For ages I have been meaning to do more video and I am finally doing that now - mostly mad woodpigeons. I've never done enough video to have an idea of whether it is really worthwhile so this could be useful. I am doing more really boring studio stuff. It's what I usually resort to when the weather has been bad for a LONG time, but it does sell. I've also written a couple of piano duets - not expecting to make a fortune from that though. So I am shooting, snapping, photographing, recording, making and doing anything I can really.
  12. Whatever you buy, I'd get it second hand. Camera Jungle and MPS have some very good prices on quality equipment. I use D600s - probably the best Nikon available if you don't want to spend 10x as much on a D5 or D6. I've been using Sigma prime lenses recently but the Nikon 24-120 f4 is a great lens if you only want to carry one. As for insurance, I've never bothered and have got away with it so far.
  13. Yes, Culture trip used to get their images on a 'Novel Use' license for some reason. It was the main reason I opted out of NU.
  14. I found and downloaded Pencil2D free animation programme and am now freely and no doubt unprofitably playing with animation.
  15. Maybe the Live News Feed should be renamed the Live Newspaper Feed. The photos on there are aimed at today's and tomorrow's newspapers. Anyone who's ever looked through a newspaper knows not all the pics are hard hitting current affairs. They have humorous pics of people, cute images of furry animals and garden birds, the Telegraph 'Pictures Of The Day' and weather - whether or not it looks like any other sunny/snowy day in history.. If it's something that a newspaper might want to use, for whatever reason, it's legitimate. Having said that, of course, I still agree that not everything on there is.
  16. I've been here a LOOOONG time
  17. I have several, covering different subjects. One for travel, studio, sport, news etc. When you have thousands on images it helps. There has been a recent discussion about 'artworks' - including (?) stamps and stained glass windows. I have lots of images of both, and they have separate pseudos - which came in very useful last week when I had to find them all quickly.
  18. I have a lot and they sell well. In fact I've had several 3 figure sales since November - one reason (actually THE reason) why I do NOT want to lose a lot of money because of a badly-written clause in the contract.
  19. Nothing wrong with enforcing terms if everyone knows what the terms are. That NEEDS to be cleared up and the contract amended accordingly, THEN enforce the terms.
