  1. I can give an update on this - Alamy took care and checked with the bank, it was an error by the bank. They used WIRE instead of SEPA, the latter still without charges. Alamy was customer oriented and booked 23 USD on my account to cover my loss. I appreciate that contributor service picked up my questions and arguments.
  2. I received the payment on Consorsbank. And they state they didnt receive a SEPA transfer, which, according to my info, should be possible in 2020 transition period. The combination of less sales, higher Alamy comission on non-exclusive and fees like this are not really motivating.
  3. -- my original post got deleted without notification, probably too many trolls hijacking the topic. Strange anyway - freedom of speech ...? Hi, I received a payout on February 6th, and, same day, a fee of 19,95 Eur was charged by my german bank. My suspicion was true - Brexit fee, as GB is no longer in the EU my bank charges this amount for any transaction outside EU/in foreign currency. In detail: my bank told me the transfer method of Alamy was changed from SEPA, the free transfer method inside EU, to SWIFT. Alamy contributor service told me they didnt change anything and I'm the only contributor who reported this issue. Well, I asked contributor service to check if the bank modified the transfer method. Question: anybody else in the European community , ex-UK, who was charged with an additional/new fee for the Alamy payout ? Comments welcome - subject related only, please. Discuss your opinion on Brexit elsewhere .... and for question regarding SEPA and SWIFT .... google is your friend.
  4. "Nobody has the intention to build a wall". Walter Ulbricht, leader of the German Democratic Republic,1961. Two month later the wall that divided Germany for 28 years was built. Lets see how plans will change - I expect a commission cut, pressure on conditions like force to exclusivity.
  5. Having uploaded some pictures today I noticed a duplicate - and I could delete it from the upload, prior to QC. Did I miss any announcement ? Hope its not a test only. Andreas
  6. I exluded PU sale, cant stop this high-res for nearly nothing ($). This seldom visited fjord is not a favorite for presentations. Country: Worldwide Usage: Presentation or newsletters, Verwendung in einer Präsentation/einem Vortrag (z. B. Powerpoint und Keynote) oder in einem Newsletter. Start: 08 December 2019 End: 08 December 2024
  7. I bought a M2P in spring this year, no issues to pass QC. I use 100 Iso, aperture between 4 - 5.6, raw. I'm really impressed how much you get for the money - pretty sharp, good software, 100 m tripod included. Much fun to take pictures - no sales yet.
  8. My wish, joining others here: sell RF by size/resolution, like most other agencies do limit size to e.g. 1200 px long side for PU & presentation - currently its invitation for misuse. Andreas
  9. Just a note regarding the effort to filter out the exclusives: Alamy has all my selected pictures, other agencies have less as they edit my offer as needed. I used the Alamy .csv file as basis in Excel, using the VLOOKUP formula to check which files dont exist in a list I requested from my other agencies (copied into 2. Excel tab). And then I mailed Alamy contributor service the filtered Excel list of the exclusive ones - done next day.
  10. I vote for limited pixel size. And yes, definitely extend the limit to presentations. Currently I opted out for PU and would do same for presentations if possible.
  11. Alex, I had picked up an older discussion some days ago, check https://discussion.alamy.com/topic/7905-exclusivity-inquiry-trade-bookscover/ for more feedback of others. Andreas
  12. Thanks for all your notes, will check DaVinci. Would prefer if Alamy sells footage as well... Andreas
  13. I checked the material at some agencies and wonder if its difficult to create this type of footage - except some test shots I never used the video option of my Olympus M1II. I do mostly travel/landscape. Do I miss something if I - use 4k/30 fps - WB, shutter, focus all manual - use tripod, or utilize the pretty good camera stabilization - is an ND filter needed/do I need longer shutter speed (fps *2) for subjects like waterfalls, scenic view, coast seen from ferry ? - is it sufficient to use Adobe premiere elements or MAGIX plus ? Adobe has a kind of dehaze function which looks useful for landscape. Looks like most clips are just developed & cut, no sound needed. Output in H.264 seems to be common. There exists a large agency that pay 50 % to the contributor, contributor may define price himself (sounds strange, doesnt it ?? -) Might be worth to spend some time on this, sales prices are reasonable, question how good footage sells. Any useful tips welcome - Andreas
  14. Use for display signage at Zoo, for life of display; use in context publication and pdf online magazine Higher $$ https://www.alamy.com/image-details-popup.asp?Imageid=9C6834B0-0D6A-42EA-A8D1-33F56B460511 Not sure why insert other media -> 'insert image from URL does not work, no error message, just red filled box.
  15. The replies are as expected, but as the effort is low to block a picture at another agency I gave it a try. Would be nice if everybody who received similar mails shares the outcome, usually after 2 month decision should be made.
  16. I remembered that I had read something about these 950 $ inquiries, had one today. Reading this forum I dont expect much, but as its only one mail to another agency I give it a try. Anybody else here with this kind of inquiry ? Usage: Trade/Retail book coverDuration: 10 yearsTerritory: WorldwideExclusivity: Trade Books/Cover
  17. Looking around and spreading our pics is the only real option. To cancel Alamy is, at least to me, no real choice. There are pics that are hard to sell somewhere else. But, adding couple of hundred RF to the Tier1 and test the feedback for a year, as well as looking for specialized agencies and try if they accept - sure. Alamy may improve over time - Alamy has a lot of options to sell more, get rid of low-quality tons of duplicates, reject uploads with spam keywording and absolute meaningless content. Long term, like in other business areas, you either make money with volume or quality.
  18. I would go with the D750 - I had a D800, showed soft edges with the high-rated 14-24. Well shot pics e.g. with a 50 mm lens show amazing details, but for stock its overkill - I agree its fun to zoom & smile. - If you buy a used D800, test for left-focus-issues (my was out for 3 & another 5 weeks to get it fixed). - check DXO lens test, the perceived MP rating gives a good hint how your glass will perform. I went mirrorless completely (Olympus) - if you already own a Fuji, why not extend this system ? I enjoy the reduced weight and size of mirrorless, and quality of A3+ print is really good.
  19. Hi, I use LR CC, try to utilize the monitor of my win 10 laptop 14", plus a 22" Eizo. While I have no problem to change settings on the laptop and see changes on the Eizo (magnifier mode), I dont manage it to see the dust removal view on the larger monitor (the view where you mask the pic in black & white, dust spots get highlighted). I just see the normal/colored pic, if I change e.g. exposure I see the change. Hope I could describe my issue ... does anybody know how to achieve this ? regards, Andreas
  20. For those who have access to Abobe Bridge - adding keywords in Bridge does not change the sorting. I found this tip at https://www.alltageinesfotoproduzenten.de/2015/06/25/frag-den-fotograf-keywords-alphabetisch-sortieren-mit-adobe-lightroom/ (german site). The article includes two links where you can leave your modification wishes to Adobe. 1) https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_keyword_re_ordering_is_a_huge_problem 2) http://dearadobe.com/gripes/lightroom/ But looks like Adobe is ignoring this long-existing requirement. regards, Andreas
  21. German photographers - be aware of VG Bild change of distribution rules. This week I received a big envelope from the VG Bild, german organization that claims royalty payments for secondary uses of photography. The change for 'private digital copy' will lead to less (zero ?) income for stock photographers. Until noe, the presence in the web triggered the payout a photographer receiced. Photographers just reported any web presence showing their pictures, report was limited to 100 pictures per web site. Beeing present on a couple of picture agencies lead to a reasonable payout. Change: pictures on photo agency web pages dont count any longer. Thats strange, as the distribution schema shall cover private digital copy. There is an initiative of the BBK Berlin (Artist group) that tries to stop this - I recommend to check their web page at http://www.bbk-berlin.de/con/bbk/front_content.php?idart=5033&refId=199 and the initiative http://www.ich-krieg-weniger.de/ ('I receive less'). At the top of the web page two links explain 'why you receive less' and 'for what you receive less'. I recommend everey VG Bild member to check this as soon as possible, share with collegues. Final decision will be made on public VG members meeting July 28th, where this needs to be accepted. You can either vote electronically, in person, or transfer your vote to a collegue or selected organizations. I will transfer my vote to the BBK Berlin Initiatve, as this change ignores stock photographers position completely, in favor of photographers who are present in other media (customer websites, exhibitions, print).
  22. Hi Janet, looking at your pictures - as you dont shoot much at low light, the Olympus will work pretty well. I moved from a D800 & D300 to M10 I/II, now EM1II. Its easier to get sharp pictures, wider depth of field, and the stabilization works pretty well. Sensor cleaning better than on my Nikons. Lenses depend on your budget - all my Chile pictures here got shot with kit lenses (Panasonic 14-42, 45-150, rated slightly better than the Olympus ones, see dxomark.com). The 2.8/12-40 is tack sharp. Ephotozine has reviews of most lenses you may look for. M10III - I would recommend the cheaper M10II, the III has no real benefits for still photography. M10III has a modified menu system, 4K video, both share 16 MP sensor and nice features like live-composite & focusstacking. Andreas
  23. The viewranger app might fit, but I'd prefer something with free maps like OpenStreetMap. Will dig more into OneNote, had used it years ago on my job. I like to stroll around as well, taking minor roads and just see whats there. But I remember situations when I missed spots just some kilometers away - e.g. special basalt formations on Iceland, or a village on Lofoten Island where I just was too tired after a days shooting, but with an idea what I missed I'd made the extra mile.
  24. Hi, a question to travel/outdoor photographers - how do you plan your trips to a country and save your research ? I use multipe sources - (paper) maps as an overview to get a feeling for distances and areas worth to visit - web research for hiking trips / blogs on regions - paper travel guide - look up pictures in tour books to get an idea of an area I'm looking for an easy way to collect this information, my favorite would be - an electronic map where I could add points of interests/link related web pages/hiking info. - usable by PC and Android - not forced to store this in a specific cloud (would use my current online storage provider) . I would really prefer something where I could add my information as layers/POI on free maps like Open Street Map. Looks like Google offers tagging on own maps, but I'd like to avoid Google for this. Any tool you know that fits for these requirements ? (My currrent favorite: One Note from Microsoft. Plus: free, allows to embed URL's, pics and more. Minus: Microsoft cloud. Map screenshots need to get manually added. ) Andreas Andreas
  25. I wanted to use european-based storage only dropbox is a no-go, and use 1 TB from Strato. You can access your data from PC and phone (android at least) with a user friendly app. The price consists of multiple elements: storage, number of users, additional access methods like (s)ftp, Webdav. They have various offers, currently 7.5 Eur/month , including 10 user accounts and additional access protocols.
