  1. On a local level they help to get your name recognised, I've had press coverage and tons of social media due to being involved with local exhibitions and there ain't no such thing as bad publicity as someone once said! They also show that you're a serious professional photographer which helps to lift you above the 1000's of wannabe togs undercutting us professionals. All directly helps my bank balance Phil Might work for some, but fact is that many believe that you win a competition and invitations of prestigious agencies and assignments of famous magazines will be served on a silver platter. Most competitions are simply about getting great pictures ......... for free (read the competition rules in small print ). Cheers, Philippe Differs with Awards offered by professional organisations who respect the photographer. And, it's only those I enter. Phil

  4. If the images are RM, then I don't see how they can object as they could only be used commercially with permission from Barclays. Are Barclays going to risk even more bad publicity by suing Alamy over this? I doubt it. Phil
  5. Yes...Barclays. Had this from Image Management as mine is a shot of a museum piece! C4HH2E, and I suggested they reconsider their decision. "Hi Phil We realise it’s a contentious issue and isn’t always straight forward. We’ve sought legal advice in the past which is why our Terms and Conditions say we don’t accept logos. The real issue seems to be how much context there needs to be in an image. Barclay’s lawyers have a clear view and we’re taking legal advice to see if we share that view. In the meantime, while we review our policy and take further legal advice we’ll be leaving these off the site and we’ll be in touch to hopefully say we can put these back on sale. We’d like as many of your images on sale as we can. We don’t like deleting images but we have to act with caution. Thanks Asha Image Management"

  9. Who's the EFF? And can we tell 'em to eff off Phil If privacy and security of on-line communication is of any interest to you, you might want the EFF to hang around for a while. dd If they're in favour of people pinching photos then they need to update their ideas before they get my support

  16. I was under the impression that if you opted in for distribution then automatically all your non restricted images got distributed. Is that not the case? Phil
