  1. Ever-growing crime and competition between immigrant ruled gangs resulted with yet another BANG.

Nothing new in Gothenburg, Sweden. Only deference is that I happened to be there.  200 m in front of my car - BANG! Awaited  for the car parts to stop showering from above and assuming that anything that could explode already exploded. Went to the car of, now unrecognisable make, the roof blown away. Passengers, what was left, beyond any help. Some other people come too. So I decided to take some snaps.

In the images there are some visible corpses. There is editorial potential in images but I didn't find anything like at Alamy.  Am not willing to fail QC (for the unsuitable content) Will be grateful for any advice.

And now OT but on "f8 and be there". Swedish mainstream media of this days is a real and heavy left propaganda; but state oposit, just like SSSR. I will not sell them anything for whatever they pay. Anyway, I had other things to do first and I have a stone age camera that I can't send  images from it. 3 hours later contacted the paper that I used to contribute, and only paper that I could think of contributing now, and said that I have high resolution images... The guy on the other side: "Oh we have so many already. Kind people are sending all the time..."

Well I am happy to have now a "decent" job as well ;)

  2. He quoted 375 EUR fixed and if court would had to be involved then - well, all over again and  X multiplied. Not up front but he send the invoice afterwards.

Hes job proved to be just to send them a couple of emails and one registered letter. And I had to tel him what to write in the letters

The infringer was the biggest daily "Delo". I did mistake and send them too soft invoice in the first. Then started the usual: "We'll give you a byline". I refereed back to the invoice. They give their proposal. I referred to the invoice again. After that they decided to ignore me.

But it ended well - I've got little more then the lawyer.

I had two more infringers over there. But it went smoothly with them. One even remember to pay a reuse before I reminded them.

Go hard on them Linda, give them a lesson.

  3. I have had some C issues in Slo. that I needed an attorney to help me with. I we looked around but could find his official I-page nowhere. Seams that he is not in that kind of play anymore. Anyway, it proved that he was not as skilled on the mater as I expected.

Maybe you would find this useful :

    Good luck

  4. If someone will do QC checking for free for me I'll give you a credit and tell all my friends about you. Paid work will then flow in and you will live forever in the land of milk and honey :)

I whish you best of luck. The cheapest I found he works for a sushi plate, But he is generous though; he shares it with me and let me have all but fish :)

  5.

Oh well, I had a peak last year too, due to I sold all my gear  B)  It was my best photobiz of the year  :)

On the other tread losdemas, on 17 Jun 2014 - 11:53 PM, said:

When you see a gold rush, stop digging and sell shovels.

It is so appropriate I could not help it....

And BTW why is someone ticking me red buttons ? Alamy? Or it is because my crap English? Spelling?
It is amusing anyway, go on and let's have a good time  :)

  6. My experience about QC, yes I have too much of it, would not fully support Ann’s theory.

But back to the topic: My graph shows a very steep line upwards from 2003 – 2008.

Almost horizontal to 2011. And now it is diving trough the floor. Because of inactivity?

Oh well, I had a peak last year too, due to I sold all my gear  B)  It was my best photobiz of the year  :)  That way, from the part time tog I become full time hobbyist. But I know too many more exiting hobbies = photo inactivity.

Since early 80es I have been leaving and coming back to the photobiz. It was paying the bills most of the time; but amount of the effort and time put in it…. was it worth?

Stock? Fighting for every bloody pixel in the frame just to be sold to Putin for a spot size… worth?

Should stop here to avoid risk of being deleted.

Ps. A sale trickled in right now. 3 this month so far. Thanks Alamy anyway.

  7. Problem is there are a lot of monkeys out there (with cameras), and people with peanuts ;)

:) Short said, but well said.

    No competition should be underestimated!

When stock took off the seasoned pros laughed at it. But, the drought in assignments started setting in very soon.

    Then RF was invented....

Then micros was invented.... and we all laughed about crappy content and quality....

Then "free" come along.....     you can admit or not, but there are some great shots there.

    Next......?...   just wait and see.

As for now we have to share peanuts with monkeys

    Next......?

  8. I have been a little worried since uploading on December 22nd. They usually pass QC in 24 to 36 hours.

But, this morning I got the "Now manage your images" green light, so it does appear to be a delay in the line up due to the Christmas holidays.

    Steve

Thank you Steve. You made me check, and yes, I got greeny too.

Have been a bit concern because I PPed this batch on a laptop. Phuh....

  9. ....

Again - for me - post processing images on a laptop is a BIG NONO!

    Cheers,

    Philippe

I cant agree better but, as you said earlier:

".... with the falling prices - customers can't expect topnotch quality if they pay peanuts for our work. So, why bother unless you produce a lot of fine art prints  "

    and repeated later:

"..... (the current payments don't justify the extra time  )"

And I would like to quote an antic script  from one of run-stones in Sweden. It reads:

"If they paid me better, I would have written better"

Well, nothing new, the history still revolves :)

  10. It's now 4-5 years that I have on my desk only a laptop connected with a calibrated external monitor.

I even did a pic or two on laptop only, when I did not have access to my desk.

Now I have a small batch done in cs6 on an old acer aspire waiting for QC over holidays.

And, I have just done the test (on the same laptop) recommended in the topic:

"How well do you see colours?" :

    -Your score: 12

    -Gender: Male

    -Age range: 60-69

    This should do, I hope.

ps. btw, now I am lazing for hours in the same position as when I was PP those pics. Cozi in the sofa, leaning on the wall behind, legs stretched, laptop on the pad with enough place for the mouse at the side. No old-back-bones troubles  :)

I made about 350 sales last year. I opted out of the distribution deal because I cannot agree that the distributor should get a better percentage than the photographer. If Alamy reversed this percentage then I will opt back in again.  Distributor and Alamy should get 30% each and the photographer should get 40%. Your thoughts?

I haven't actually opted out, not from all of them anyway, as I would lose too many sales but I fully agree with the sentiment.  The distributor does the least and the photographer does the most and the percentage should reflect this.

    Also considering opting out....

    +1 !

I opted out and back already xxx times.... Being most upset with those Russian spot sizes / print run 1000 :(

Couple months ago I got the best sale of the year - In Russia ! Confused!

Most of all "I have a dream that one day we all agree...."

Then I wouldn't only quit the D. scheme but I would even join you on barricades if need!

Best wishes for the Holidays from the archipelago in southern Bohuslan

Are they the islands west of Stenungsund? I have memories of a couple of wonderful short stays on the coast there in the 1970s.

    Alan

Those are Orost and Tjörn. They are big, but in 70ties probably safe and people were nice. Time brings changes,

We are archipelago of little island/islets just west from Gothenburg. Here appears that the time has stopped for at least half a century ago...

so, people are still civilised and pleasant :) Come and see.

    No dangers for cameras!

But not much to shoot either :(

But who cares anyway .. .with the way this industry goes it's more lucrative to go fishing then shooting :( or :)?

  13.

First commandment for a tourist, photographer, person in general. Never ever leave valuable thing visible in your car, no even mention our precious cameras, in any place in this world. Well, Japan could be an exception. :)

    . . . and perhaps Reykjavik too.

    dd

    + my little island.

I do not even lock the car over here. Even a bicycle is safe. But as soon as on the fastland, let alone the city (Gothenburg) I wouldn't leave a half eaten sandwich visible in the vehicle!

Best wishes for the Holidays from the archipelago in southern Bohuslan

  14. i contacted a will writer and they said that its part of your estate so does not necessarily have to be mentioned in isolation although its not a bad idea. I contacted the tax man and its not a business you are leaving as the business is the taking / uploading etc etc of the photos so no tax there. Obviously any sales would be subject to tax

My wife and kids have the password to my alamy account to change the details (banking etc) and a copy of probate would suffice should alamy make any enquiries with the benefactors

    Kevin

    Clear enough.

On my side I am not going to make the trouble double.

BTW, those with fresher memory may correct me, but I think that in Alamy's "beginnings" there was even option of an alternative bank account in case that somethings goes wrong.....

My universe will die with me, so I couldn't give a toss.

    Alan

I wouldn't argue this either, but....

Undoubtedly everything else being equal your heirs will enjoy the income until your collection withers on the vine; all your images on HD(s)  Ctrl A ..... "DELETE"

who is supposed to Ctrl A.... "Delete"?

Oh well, I guess that majority of togs have heirs who would have no time/will to continue. And the HDs will wither away too.

    Interesting topic though.

  15. Multiple sales.... ?

XXX from 1 photographer or XXX from XXX photographers?

If the last, then we have already experienced this at Alamy. You get 10% from, often, a peanut.

    No thanks!

And BTW, I'm even considering to unsubscribe all together. Fill that my images over there are not safe enough.

What I wonder is, I am getting enormous amount of views in, eg, China but no sales to China?

I apologise for getting off topic but can't let it be asking: What is your experience in this mater. China / views?
