  1. Thanks Kay and John for taking the time out to answer my query. 


    So just in case anyone else has a similar problem - just follow their instructions. I set the date to 2007 - when I started with Alamy - then pasted  the downloaded CSV file into Google Sheets. From there it was easy to search on the code of the specific pics.


    Oh that life was always so simple!

  2. Does anyone know if it's possible to check through the dashboard if an individual image has been sold, at any time, by Alamy. I've one or two oldish pix appearing on websites and before chasing the user, it would be helpful to exclude Alamy as a scource.

  3. Here's a thought...


    Occasionly an image is worthy of many tags. In that situation it's easy to exceed the required amount of 50 if say Photoshop Bridge is used.  It's not a problem until one discovers a critical tag has inadvertantly been left out. However, before adding that new tag, the number of tags needs to be reduced to 49. So,  we just have to blindly delete the less-important tags until that number of tags is reached.


    It would be helpful if above the tag listing,  the number of tags are shown. Currently in the situation outlined above, it merely shows 50/50. If it could be reconfigured to show the actual number of tags eg 55/50 - and better still - reduce accordingly it would very helpful.

  4. Perhaps not as simple as Allan suggests, so perhaps I can address this to Alamy directly...


    I've over 5,000 images on file and there's probably a couple of hundred among those shot ten or eleven years ago that could be improved. However, after carefully reviewing the aesthetics and subject matter I've  whittled it down to about 50 that ought to replace the existing images.


    Thinking about this problem logically, if I and other members are prepared to spend time re-processing images to improve them technically and aesthetically, then it will make them more commercial and attractive to buyers. The result should be more sales, something that benefits both the contributor and Alamy.


    So, surely it can't be beyond the abilities of the techno buffs in Alamy to work out a system to replace images that are worthy of sales, yet currently tend to be "passed over" by clients due to the aforementioned  reasons.  Facilitating this can only be a win-win situation.

  5. I'd like to add a thought to this...


    I began submitting images to Alamy in 2006, and during those 11 years I've learned a lot about processing images through Photoshop.  When AIM was introduced I spent  a lot of time working on my existing imagery, adding tags etc. Whilst doing so, I found a number of images which although they've passed QC, could be improved hugely with the post-processing knowledge I've gained over the intervening years to make them far more saleable.


    It would be a one-off request and I'd be more than happy to add the Alamy's own image number and help in anyway I can to make it an easy task, but  how would Alamy feel about replacing 50-ish images?


    Or have you any other suggestions how I might do this?

  6. I'd like to preface this by saying I like the new Alamy Image Management system. It's taken a little time to get used to, but seems to work well and I particularly like the ability to add phrases to tags.

    But I do have one query. Checking through my earlier images, their "Discoverability" levels are mostly indicated as "On Sale" with an orange bar.  I gather that it's preferable for them to be "On Sale" with a green bar. To do this is simple enough, all I need to do is bring the number of tags up to 40 and 'Eureka' it changes to green. If I add 50 tags, then an image's discoverability is fully optimised.

    In  AIM Q&As, It's stressed that all images should have at least 5 tags and serious contibutors will add many more, but I've always understood that tags should be pertinent and reflect the nature/location/concept etc of the image. Then question I've always asked myself is "Are my tags relevant to the researcher/buyer?"

    The briefing about this aspect is not completely clear, so before I spend hours in front of my monitor - rather than shooting new stock - does the orange/green bar really matter from the viewpoint of selling our images?  Please can someone advise.

  7. Delighted that my additional post was able to help...


    I reckon it would take one hell of a powerful algorithm - if one exists - to link disparate keywords amidst a whole pile of them and turn them into a phrase. Idon't think I'll be holding my breath. Although having said that I hope it will differentiate those within inverted commas, because I've been doing that ever since I started.


    But one thought occurs ... when I look back at my earliest images, they're good pics, but the years of subsequent keywording illustrates that those existing keywords are somewhat lacking. It seems a good opportunity to remedy that, I just hope the job of changing individual keywords to  phrases and/or adding new ones is intuitive and fast.

    I should preface this by writing that I'm looking forward to the new system. At 71 years young, my philosophy is Viva la Change. And the inability of the old system to produce keyphrases, was just one of many small problems that the new one will fix. I'm sure it will be rolled out as an when it's fully debugged. Anyway to figure out what to do until the new system has been  rolled out, I wrote to Alamy contributor relations and this is their very prompt reply. It answereds my questions succinctly and I figured might help others......


    We used to strip out commas you embedded in your metadata, now we will be using commas on the new system we have stopped doing this.


    At the moment separating keywords with a space is still fine and will be recognised as a separator with the new system, but if you would rather leave the keywords as they are with commas and no spaces that is also fine and will be recognised by the system.


    If you want to add multi-word tags (phrases) it makes sense to use commas to separate each tag. EG:


    America, USA, New York City, United states, times square, buildings, people


    This way the new system will recognise "New York City", "United States", and "Times Square" as single tags.


    Using " " marks around words or [ ] will also transfer to the new system as a single tag.


    We would not suggest waiting for the new tools, you should continue to keyword and get your images on sale as you have always done and once the new tools go live all your information will transfer across.


    It also seems remarkably logical. Roll on the roll out!

  9. Thanks Mark...Sound advice.  Thank you for the link to the relevant blog page, it sounds like it could be pretty good when complete.  (thinks...I should have been looking anyway!) So, I think my "work around" is going to be ... leave the existing keywords, watch whats happening on the blog, enjoy the Christmas break. Hope you all do too!

  10. Something strange occured in my last submission (by FTP) and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it.


    When I keyword my images I use Photoshop Bridge. Once done a check in 'File Info' reveals that the keywords are seperated by a semi-colon and a space. eg shrine; solitary; crucifix;  etc


    When they reach "Manage Images", the semi-colon is removed and there's a single space between each keyword. eg shrine solitary crucifix etc - which is how it's been for years.


    On this particular upload each keyword is seperated by a single comma and no space. eg  shrine,solitary,crucifix, etc


    Has something changed in the last 7 days that I'm unaware of? It's not the end of the world, but I'd appreciate knowing if this the new norm, or there been an error in the upload.

  11. I agree Stephen, iPhones are over-rated, over expensive and a pain.


    For the reasons stated in my earlier email, along with the software problems that mean I can't upload pics, I'm giving up on Stockimo...


    The two other agencies I send the images to make it easy and straight forward, and frankly I can't be bothered with the hassle, so no more Stockimo uploads.

  12. Much as I dislike missing the opportunity of(potentially) making cash from my iPhone pics, I'm giving up on Stockimo...


    I have to download images to my PC, on which I normally process the images in Photoshop on my PC.  It's also where I can keyword them in Bridge from the my archive.   Then I have to upload them to an Ipad and from there to Stockimo, where infuriatingly none of keywords in the metadata are available. So I have the chore of keywording on the app which is desparately time consuming.  Now due to some software shenanigans I can't progress any further.


    The two other agencies I send the images to make it easy and straight forward. Frankly I can't be bothered with the hassle, so no more Stockimo uploades..


    So when and if Alamy put in a system to faciliate the millions of android users perhaps they'll let me know and I'll review the situation.

  13. Here's a thought - or two!  I started uploading my phone images, shot on a Samsung Galaxy S5 some 18 months ago.  At that time Alamy said they were working on an Android App !!??


    So, I have to download images to my PC, where incidentally, I often process them in Photoshop on my PC (where I could use PS Bridge to quickly keyword from the keyword archive).   Then I have to upload them to an Ipad and from it to Stockimo, where infuriatingly any keywords in the metadata are not available, so I have the chore of keywording on the app which is desparately time consuming.


    I can understand the requirement of the Stockimo App when news images need to be uploaded quickly, hence the Iphone Stockimo app.  Whilst we are waiting for the Android Stockimo App to appear, why can't a separate FTP site strictly for phonepics be introduced?  It would have the advantage that Android shooters wouldn't have to jump through all those rridiculous hoops - and perhaps the metadata could be retained.


    Today, I can't upload my pics anyway from the Ipad, due to an apparent problem with the latest Apple OS and/or the Stockimo App, it's getting to the point where Stockimo is too much hassle for this Android user. And BTW, Data from Strategy Analytics reveals that Samsung sold 83.2 million smartphones worldwide in the March quarter of 2015, compared to Apple's 61 million iPhones sold during the same period. Which means that you're p*****g off an awful lot of potential contributors.


    Somethings needs to be done.

  14. Is anyone else having problems with Stockimo/iPad?


    I shoot on a Samsung Galaxy, process them on my PC, and using itunes can transfer them to my wife's Ipad  (iOS 9.3.1) for uploading to Stockimo. It's a bit fiddly, but it works okay and I have almost 300 pics online.


    Today I uploaded the images successfully - but when I go to the Stockimo upload ->select photo albums -> and the stockimo folder, the screen is blank, devoid of thumbnails. If I touch the centre of the screen a random full size image  appears on the "upload screen". But with 40 pics I need some kind of method  has anyone else had this problem?



  15. I'm still confused. If it's stated that commercial images will be sold as RF and editorial images will sold as RM, does that mean that RF images won't be sold for editorial use?  Can I be sure that any images marked as available for commercial use will be designated as RF? Not according to the contract!


    I should add that I'm not being awkward, just trying to make sure that neither photographer - or agency - finds unexpected hassle creeping out of the woodwork! I'm sure that Alamy will clarify tomorrow and give us their definitive interpretation of the situation...

  16. A thought occurred...


    In the Stockimo contract, clause 7.1 begins, "You grant to Alamy a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license ... "  so I would understand from that I can send the same images to another agency, also on a non-exclusive basis? 


    However, clause 7.2 goes on, "You grant Alamy permission to sell your Images at any price and by any method we feel appropriate without Alamy having to consult you." by which I presume you mean that commercial images will be sold as RF and editorial images sold as RM.


    So if Alamy is selling an image as RM, and another agency is selling the same image as RF,  will that cause concern to Alamy/Stockimo? a little clarification on both points would be helpful if at all possible.

  17. Alamy...any chance of a change of heart?


    I'm probably in a similar situation to many other Alamy photographers in that I can't afford to purchase an Apple iPhone to participate in Stockimo. I use a Galaxy S4, with a 13 MB sensor, the results of which are superb; but they can't be submitted to Stockimo because  Alamy writes...


    "We’ve seen some images coming through via Stockimo that aren’t shot on phones*. We set up Stockimo to source and collect iPhone photos so we’ll be rejecting pictures that aren’t shot on a phone*. Sorry, but if we are to package and promote the collection as shot on phones we need to be confident about the product." (*presumably meaning iPhones).  A bit like saying in the early days of digital photography that we'll only take images shot with a Canon. So to all you Nikon users...tough!


    Naturally that didn't happen, instead Alamy produced a check-list of cameras that produced images of acceptable quality. Would it really be so difficult to apply a similar system to Stockimo, so that the rest of us have a chance to participate?
