  5. Ed, they may not even know what caused it. These things aren't always obvious and, as you've discovered, not everyone working on behalf of them is an expert.   6. For anyone considering an iMac I would certainly suggest they look at an M1 Mac mini with SSD and a separate monitor. These days even average desktop monitors are excellent. And even Macbook fans might think about having an SSD Mini desktop plus a lower spec, smaller and lighter Macbook model for portability. You have 2 devices available if the unthinkable happens (and sadly it can).
