  1. Well guys.. thanks for all the advice....I have also had advice from someone who is self employed "not in photography" .. I showed him the forum on how much members are earning on this site... the outcome was.. If I am not going to join a number of stock sites and put up a few 1000s images very soon its just not worth employing an accountant to sort my income out.. ""yes what income" . Some of the members who have been doing stock for years and have 1000s of stock on this site and I suppose others sites as well are only topping there full time wages up... well I don't want to go down that road I never intended to join any other stock site, .. This was just a little pastime for me .I have never been out to take stock pics.. all the pics I have put up are already on my drives...O yes I don't want to be a pro... Don't have the motivation to go down that road..I have worked too hard all my life and now I have retired I am happy to sit with my feet up...Yes I will still use my cameras for my own enjoyment .....I want to enjoy my photography without having to worry about key wording or if its sharp enough is there any dust bunnys flying about...No I have decided its not for me.. I would like to say thank you to all the member who supported me over the past few months..you are so kind...I have deleted my few measly pics and hope the managers will not take too long in sorting that out for me... Best regards to you all.... have a good 2014 ... Barbara
  2. OMG what have i started, I have taken Davids comment personal .. I have never deceived anyone and have payed all my taxes during my working life and claimed not a thing...I may have got this thread wrong but is some one implying that I am that I am trying to defraud the "taxman" ... That is not the case I wouldn't have asked a question on here if I didn't want to pay tax on any income I might earn on this site.. "fat chance of that tho" .. you have made me feel very uncomfortable now..... I don't want know if I want to sell any images or even carry on with this site .. How can I be judged when you don't know me... ONE UPSET & angry woman tonight..
  3. I will have to get this sorted ...Now I need to get in touch with the tax office soon....I have tried to phone them .. .. Cheers Guys,,,
  4. Ahh.. yes it's a hobby at the moment...I don't have any other income ..It will get sorted and I don't intend to claim on any of my equipment... Thanks for all your help guys.... http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/guidance/selling/examples.htm
  5. .. I don't want the taxman knocking at my door...asking for something I haven't earned yet.. and not lightly to earn...
  6. O right I will ask my other half to look into it...he sorts all that kinda stuff out...thanks for the info....
  7. If I am ever lucky enough to sell a photo.. do alamy take tax from my earnings ...
  8. Wishing you all the very best on the arrival of your baby... good luck for the future as a Daddy and family man... Barbara
  9. Hi Paulette I know it might look like a false economy but I've just spent nearly £500 on camera and tripod and the thought of spending another £100 makes me nervous, especially as I already have Photoshop Elements 9 on the computer. Will muse on it. Thanks for the link. Jan I downloaded the Lightroom free trial but I can't find my way around it at all. I can't find my way around my camera, either, and I'm beginning to wonder if I've made a huge and expensive mistake. The few pictures I took are dreadful at 100% (and not, come to that, I can't seem to set it up properly). O so sorry Jan .. I misunderstood your comment of not being able to find your way around your camera...I am sure you will get there in the end...

Now matter how intelligent we are its not easy to learn another trade over night ... photography is a trade and needs to be learned over a period of time.. Take your time, join a club in your home town..master your camera , read the instructions and practice daily... even hourly.. its like learning to drive one day you just get it and smile... good luck.. O yes Lightroom.. well all I can say I couldn't live without it... but you don't need to know everything right away .. try out one or two tasks and stick to them the rest will follow... All the best...
  11. O John I didn't take it personal. .but I do tend to put silly captions on my images...but then I am a little flippant about myself and my work...I don't take things too serious... All the best... B
  12. O yes I just might be the one with .. "church on a hill" or "big fish" But you guys are teaching me and I tend to learn all about the keywords ..O god I know I will never catch up to you John and the rest of the experts but I hope to have fun while learning ... .. and yes that's what its all about...enjoying what you do and not to take life too serious .... best wishes,,,
  13. Thanks Philippe.. Normandy sound a great place to go... I do need advice as I am not sure what images to post that might sell...I do believe every thing has been done and my work would have to be exceptional to get even a zoom never mind a sale... We have just had 2 week in the Caribbean on a cruise.. now there is not many things to shoot for stock on there is there... O yes there were ships and bigger ships and clippers more clippers big one small ones.. O yes beaches and blue water, sun bathers and swimmers...O did I say yachts ...O yes I missed out sunsets and sunrises,,, but not a lot of stock images... It was a great holiday.. Now back to the real world and I must get my head down and try and earn enough pennies for a new pr of flip flops for my next holiday... The only thing I should have shot was all the fab meals the presentation was excellent ... How could I get my big SLR out and start taking pics of fish and twigs on a plate in all my finery... besides the camera wouldn't fit in my little clutch bag... :D .. All joking aside I do need to take more salable shots and start thinking of what I am doing ... I need plenty of advice and I much appreciate it ... you are all so kind on this forum.... Right I have almost downloaded most of my cards into lightroom .. one large one to go ... and I will go through them and see it are any worthy of Alamy.. What I do is find a decent image and look on the site to see how many similar have already been uploaded and as you know there are 1000s of every image you can think of.. ""whats the point of posting a pic when there are already 1000s similar"" .so that puts me off posting, ...So I know its the keywords that I need to get right....O yes and not forgetting to get the spelling right.... Thanks for taking the time and energy to help.... Regards Barbara ...
