  1. I have been an Australian CFA volunteer firefighter for many years now, unfortunately at the last state election a the volunteer fire brigade was used as a political football by the conservative side of government, a faction of the brigade organization and the Murdoch press. It was messy destructive and divided the members along party lines. I have just found that the Liberal party ( the conservatives) have used one of my photos to support their cause, I am somewhat upset about this as it both removes income from my family and their advertising is what I would call "Fake news". Any sugge
  2. Ok thanks for that Bill Pounding surf is one of the areas I do photograph in :-( Scratch that plan
  3. After the theft of a large amount of equipment I am slowly re equipping with some newer cameras and lenses, I occasionally shoot shallow underwater images using a ewa marine bag, I was wondering if anyone had used the Nikon 1 AW1 and how they found it ? I am currently using a pair of D700 s and usually shoot wide to ultra wide shots.
  4. Anti-Piracy Group Caught Pirating Song For Anti-Piracy Ad... Corruption Scandal Erupts In Responsefrom the wow deptThe Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN is one of the most aggressive of the anti-piracy groups out there. So there's some amusement in watching as it gets caught up in a scandal that started when it pirated music for an anti-piracy campaign. BREIN had asked musician Melchoir Rietveldt to compose a song for a video that was only to be used at a local film festival. The terms of the deal were strict: the song was only for that one anti-piracy video at that one film festival. However, Rie
  5. I have discovered a UK Naturopath who has stolen one of my photos and used it in his advertising online I have invoiced him and sent a request from a debt collection agency He is claiming that he should only pay the original stock image pice and that he has made me a very generous offer of $70 that is 3 times what the photo is really worth :-( My next option seems to be a UK court Does anyone have any advice about the UK court system on such matters or precedents for such cases ? In Australia this would be dealt with in a small claims court without lawyers and for a minimal cost In
  6. Does anyone have a debt collection service that they can recommend for general debts and collection of invoices for stolen photos ? Mainly in the UK and USA but is there a world wide service ? I have a few tough customers ( or customers who think they can be tough )
  7. http://thenextweb.com/creativity/2015/01/07/ansel-adams-act-seeks-restore-photographers-first-amendment-rights/ Sorry if this has been discussed before It looks like a step in the right direction for protecting rights and freedoms of US photographers The bill explicitly states that “still and motion photographs are speech” and that government attempts through threat and intimidation to prevent people from photographing or otherwise recording in the public space violate the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
  8. Bloody great footage of what it is like on a fireground A SA photographer/ firefighter with a helmet GoPro Hot and confusing Trying to do 3 or 4 things at once while watching for your crew and keeping yourself and them safe Organized chaos with the occasional chance for a banana.
  9. Martin; may I disagree, we may or may not be rich in the things money cannot buy, BUT if we have a home, electricity, a computer and cameras we are without doubt up there in the richest 10% of people alive today. If we have these things then we are indeed up amongst the most amazingly wealthy and privileged people who have ever lived. See where you come on the Global Rich list ! http://www.globalrichlist.com/
  10. 01 February 2014 to 01 January 2015 (80 item(s) totalling $5214.93) for sales 2014 was not exactly the best year ever and it ended with an embarrassing whimper of 2 for $23 in December. I have had better months sales than the whole year but that is life. I wish everyone a healthy happy and peaceful new year. Every time I look around I remind myself I am not just one of the richest and luckiest people alive on the earth, I am right up there with the richest and luckiest people who have ever lived. I have a safe warm bed, I have food in the cupboard, I have water and electricity at my com
  11. From downunder where we do not have any celebration wishing you all the best up there I think we actually need a family based holiday at this time of year to sort out the "Who's parents do we see at Christmas " thing Christmas day is always a nightmare and then most of our public holidays fall in the first quarter of the new year. Cheers anyway !!!
  12. Yeah! Good for you and I'm proud of you for standing up for your rights! Which photographers group on Facebook? I'm familiar with Photo Stealers. Is that the one? I need to put the public screws to a few that are blowing me off right now. L ========================== https://www.facebook.com/groups/fapsc/?fref=ts An aussie group of camera nuts and other nutters :-)
  13. Small claims are great if you live nearby I would have had to travel 3,500km to attend court ( costs would have been fun as I would have become scared of flying and taken the Indian Pacific, I also cannot travel on public transport without my wife as I have medical conditions so she would have accompanied me ) If I need to I usually had the matter over to local debt collectors That usually works
  14. I am not sure this is the right forum area but ..... I have had an interesting 24 hours after discovering a camera shop had stolen my image of a smashed D200 and lenses and used it as advertising for their repair department on line. Had they bought the image it probably would have cost them less than $50 I sent an invoice for $695 last night and followed up today to ask how they would like to pay ( they had removed the image from their web page first thing this morning ) They did not reply so I gave the manager a call and was told rudely that they had removed the image and they had only u
  15. I have always believed that any half decent photographer can make something beautiful look beautiful The real art of photography is in seeing the unseen beauty in the things others miss. I somewhat object to the level of importance some photographers gain because they photograph only amazing looking models or celebrities and claim they make beautiful photo. I far prefer those who can find beauty where others do not see it.
  16. http://www.slate.com/blogs/behold/2014/11/04/susan_copich_photographs_life_at_home_in_her_series_domestic_bliss.html?wpisrc=obinsite Just a somewhat humourous ( dark humor ) look at family life
  17. I got in again and I must say it comes as somewhat of a disappointment, my sales have been bad ( what I consider bad anyway ) if I am in the top 500 sellers then there are real problems with the industry
  18. I would just put a note in the descriptions field saying " The models have requested this photo not be used for any promotion of pharmaceuticals, meat products or any sexually related material including diseases." With an agreement if there was any future problems you could always say you had made the best efforts to ensure their requests were followed.
  19. Second thing I do after downloading ! Always convert and save as DNG
  20. "But being ultra-conservative is not a way to approach photography. " I have the same feelings, yes a perfectly exposed perfectly sharp image is always good to see, but often the most powerful images have what would normally be considered technical flaws. I have lost count of the number of times I have worried over photos for my own quality reasons only to have a client love how they express emotions. There should always be room for a tradeoff
