  1. Many thanks SShep - a front cover and another one inside. The question is would the combined fee justify buying a copy ?
  2. Update to the update... I've had a reply to the effect that "we were inundated with people wanting to take up the offer, presumably at those rates, so we don't need you or your bolshy re-negotiation bol***ks, but have a good day"
  3. Update ....I replied expressing my interest and a .modicum of enthusiasm but questioning the rates and asking about rights, image rights etc. And......nowt ! I imagine my reply was metaphoricaly screwed up and tossed into the bin.
  4. Thanks Ed and also thanks to Chris Hellier who pm'd me to offer some very helpful info. I've tried to thank you via email, Chris, but it keeps bouncing back.
  5. Thanks for the replies so far - the message is clear ! I'll try a bit of negotiation. I suspect that the reply may be of the take it or leave it variety. I guess that as with stock photography, the power is largely in the buyer's hands.
  6. Out of the blue, I've been contacted by an on-line photography tuition business asking if I'm interested in writing an e-book. They appear to be well established and one of the more prominent of these types of outfit. They had seen my images in an international photo competition They pay $6 per 100 words and an e-book is 20 - 30,000 words. Has anybody done this type of work ? Is that a fair pay rate ? I'm interested in doing it - it would be a new challenge and you never know what might lead from it - but it's not something I have any experience of apart from a few illustrated articles. Any insights and advice welcomed, as are any pertinent questions that I should be asking at this stage. Thanks Geoff
  7. Thanks Kumar, very interesting though ,as you say, confirms what is the unfortunate reality
  8. Excellent achievement. re: The average of $10 per image, that also seems to be an impressive statistic. Is it skewed by better revenue in the early part of your Alamy career ? Anybody else getting similar averages ? And if so, are you getting that in, say, the past 5 years ? Mine seems to be a paltry $1.60 per image, which is light years away from Doc's numbers.
  9. I was about to post the same question - submissions have been going through QC in the blink of an eye for a while but yesterday's are still twiddling their thumbs in the virtual waiting room
  10. Thanks for suggestions. Yes these Surface Pros look good, though a tad pricey. Perhaps I should look for an older / used / reconditioned one Do you find the screens are faithful as standard or do they need calibration ? Is it worth considering one with 8gb RAM or is that a false economy ?
  11. I'm considering getting a laptop for occasional use ie when away from home and the p.c. I don't want to spend into four figures. Could you suggest a shopping list of features / minimum specs or perhaps a few specific models ? e.g. What type of screen gives the most faithful reproduction ? Note : I'm a bit of a technophobe and also don't have any experience of Macs. Thanks in advance
  12. Having just checked, I have 5 stars though I've no idea how I've achieved such an accolade. I'm more of a sporadic uploader and don't have a massive portfolio. Guessing it doesn't have any impact on one's rank ? Still, I think I might sew a row of pips onto my camera strap
  13. I use this to convert my fuij RAW files to DNG. Being a bit of a Luddite, I've never investigated the settings available to me. Does anyone who uses Iridient make any alterations to the default settings under 'RAW Options' or 'DNG Options' ? If so, what ? My images are mainly landscape / travel /nature Thanks
  14. Thanks guys. In short then, it doesn't really amount to much ! May have to try and apply for News access as suggested.
  15. Hello all, after the changes to Live News I received an email which said "As you are someone who has uploaded news imagery that has later sold as secondary stock, we’ve given you access to the archive / reportage route which means you can upload similar work for secondary sales, but it won’t be pinged to the news desks." Being a bit thick, I'm not entirely sure what that means in practice. Could someone with the patience to do so explain it to me please. I've had 'archive' access for some time - is this different ? I live in Buxton which is famous for 2 things - snow and the Buxton Festival - which are the things I have mainly sent to Live News in the past. When it next snows (probably next week) will submitting via 'reportage' give me any advantage over the standard submission ? Thanks
  16. Ah, I see what you mean. That's answered that one then !
  17. I was away when the 'my portfolio' feature was introduced and then we had the furor over the contract change. So now that the dust has settled a little, is the Portfolio feature worth spending time on ? Are there any tangible benefits or is it pure frippery ? Geoff
  18. I've noticed that some people include in their captions / keywords information such as "space left for copy" to describe the layout/composition of the image. Any thougts about the merits of this ? Geoff
  19. Apologies if this has been mentioned but I've been away for a while and come back to this whole contract sh*tstorm... Alamy can the 'exclusive' button be included in the default preferences options please ? Thanks
  20. So in Alamy's tutorial we have 8 pictures of a shipwreck, and yet 'shipwreck' isn't a supertag ?
  21. I wonder if any of you have any experience with solar chargers that you can attach to a backpack ? Looking to recharge camera batteries efficiently without huge weight or price tag. Thanks Geoff
  22. Just about to say the same; with white or black pen depending on mount colour
  23. Thanks , I'll look into that Wim. As a 'better than nothing' measure I've written my email address on a piece of masking tape stuck onto the body under the articulating screen on the camera. If some honest person ever found this one it would hopefully ease it's return. Geoff
  24. see this discussion.....https://discussion.alamy.com/topic/9783-upload-not-working/ Geoff
  25. I haven't managed to get a batch to upload in one go for some time. Yesterday managed about 75% of the first attempt, then about 30% of the second try before it seizes up. Not large batches either, generally 10-30 images.
