  1. I love to sit on the couch with my iPad, looking up various references when I watch movies. They're great for checking email and social media, watching Netflix and yes, you can even edit photos and upload, but they were never intended to replace computers for photo editing or storage. The largest model only has 512gb storage and, as far as I l know, there are limited back-up and storage options. Given the cost, I'd much rather spend a little more on a MacBook that runs real PhotoShip, Lightroom, and allows you to store photos on an external drive.
  2. You can import and process .NEF files with either the built-in Photo app or third party apps. I have an old version of FilterStorm on my Original iPad that allows me to caption and ftp. None of the software I have installed supports CA removal, spotting, etc but maybe it's available with newer versions or Lightroom Mobile. My iPad also tends to downsize larger files when I export.
  3. If you were using Lightroom 6, it looks like you would be able to upload photos directly from Lightroom to Portfolio. Since I haven't explored this area, I don't know if you could upload in one process, but one alternative would be to export a group of watermarked images and then upload those. As MDM said, watermarking in Lightroom is easy. Create a watermark and then click a box when you export. You can probably create a Watermark action in PhotoShop but this is one aspect where Lightroom really excels. http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2016/11/publish-from-lightroom-web-to-adobe-portfolio.html
  4. It's all in the math. When Alamy makes a discounted sale, what they received is split 50/50 as stated in the contract. With an Affiliate Sale 23% of what Alamy receives is taken off the top and the remainder is split 50/50.
  5. Another way of looking at this is, who does the billing? If the person with the website bills for the photo, which seems highly unlikely, then it's some kind of third party sale.If Alamy does the billing then it's a direct sale. Normally these kind of referral links come under advertising and marketing which is one of Alamy's costs of doing business. Presuming that's the case, it should be deducted from Alamy's share.
  6. I'm still on the fence about this. I understand it's a sale I wouldn't have otherwise made, and I realize Alamy wanted to offer Affiliates a strong incentive to participate, but I feel 20% is a lot, particularly when half is deducted from the photographer's share. I checked Amazon last night and, by comparison, they pay Affiliates 10% I also feel it sets a bad precedent for Alamy to change the commission structure, in whole or in part, without more formal notice than mentioning it on the forums, and without amending the Photographers Contract.
  7. I don't think it's either a Direct Sale or a Distributor Sale. It's not mentioned in the Alamy contract and it doesn't conform to any of the commission splits in the chart. I'm guessing Alamy calls it an Affiliate Sale because it's an entirely different model.
  8. In another thread, SpaceCadet wrote " The best (keywording) agency in the world is the one between your ears." So no, I wouldn't be happy about lowering the percentage for keywording. One other agency I no longer work with charged a one time fee of 25 cents per image, against sales, to have images keyworded by a third party. It took weeks to get the images online and the results were pretty bad.
  9. True, but those of us who weren't interested in the Affiliate program, or don't even have websites, probably didn't bother to read the details.
  10. There was some talk about what it would mean to Affiliates, and how to insert the html, but I don't remember much discussion about how it would affect photographers in terms of percentages. Not that I necessarily would have opted out but, photographers can opt out of distribution sales, which pays a lower percentage, so why not Affiliate sales as well? I guess the numbers are a bit odd because the Affiliate program also takes a percentage (which isn't included in the breakdown). 20% is a hefty amount for adding a link to your website compared to 38.5 percent for the photographer who actually created the photo. I guess I just wish Alamy had explained this scheme fully instead of leaving us to guess what it actually means.
  11. As mentioned in another thread, I have one of those Worldwide sales where there was no deduction in Net Revenue but there was an Affiliate Deduction in Balance of Account - Alamy 38.5%, Affiliate 23%. At the time I presumed it was a Distributor Sale but maybe I was mistaken. I've noticed some kinks in My Alamy over the past few days, resulting in errors when I try to access my Dashboard as well as Balance of Account. Maybe half the time when I try to check one of the pages the screen shows no data. If there is a new percentage for sales made through "Affiliate Websites" where photographers only receive 38.5% of sales shouldn't we have received noticed? All of this is rather confusing.
  12. The Lightroom Plug-in for Alamy gives you a smart list of images that have sold, Once ou select an image the side panel shows the number of times, and the gross amount for all sales for a particular image.
  13. I'm not sure even Stockimo will accept 1.4 MB files. I accidentally tried to submit a file that had somehow gotten downsized and the app spat out an error that the file was too small. My smallest Stockimo files, from my old iPhone 3Gs, come in just over 17 mb uncompressed.
  14. Obviously if there's no caption the news team can't guess what the photo is of. If you upload at night, or on a weekend, you should still have some time to correct the error, but ideally you should caption images before you upload them. Photographers are responsible for captioning and keywording Live News Photos just like any other photos submitted to Alamy. The News people will sometimes edit captions, ask for more information, or clean up the feed if photos from the same shoot appear in more than one stack. I've noticed sometimes they'll change my caption from "New York, NY" to "New York, USA" and add the Alamy Live News credit at the end of the caption, but photographers still have to add keywords and set attributes in Manage Images. Otherwise the images may not be searchable once they enter the general stock search.
  15. Alamy Live News images aren't removed because of caption, keywords, etc. The news team will often edit captions and the photographer can edit in Manage Images. News images are removed if the news team feels they aren't newsworthy or have obvious flaws.
  16. Same here. I bank with Chase and receive payments via ACH Deposit with no bank fees. By comparison, Chase charges me about $20 to receive a Wire Transfer.
