How was your November 2019?
Broad Norfolk replied to Tony's topic in Stock photography discussion and contributor experience
Only 3 sales in November but that's one more than November last year. For year to date it's my best yet - up on both sales and revenue. CTR and zooms down a bit and views holding steady. Jim -
Dodgy shoulder
Broad Norfolk replied to Bryan's topic in Stock photography discussion and contributor experience
It's this age stuff, Bryan! I have had problems with back and upper body and I made a conscious effort to lighten the load. I bought myself a light EOS M which I carry on longer treks and the tripod, lenses and all the other gear are locked in the car boot and only come out on the shorter runs. Needs a bit of planning but I found it helps. Jim -
A couple of good points! I've been doing stock since 2005 and have kept going mainly because I love photography. I haven't got as many images as some but should crack the 10K by the end of this year. And yes, I shoot what interests me, including some oddball stuff, and after all these years the last four are now providing some fair returns. I always had a sort of target to make one sale per week and this year so far I'm slightly ahead. So, in my case, it's been a patient game and I guess, as geogphotos says, just keep going at it. Unfortunately success isn't always instant but, hey, enjoy what you're doing! Jim

Arrived back from the north of the UK on Thursday night and only discovered this tragedy yesterday. I am still shell-shocked. I'm sort of an Alamy oldie and have always taken note of his very good advice and comments over the years. For those who are familiar with his words and philosophy it would be a nice tribute to move forward with these in mind to help make us all better Stock photographers. My sincere condolences to his family and close ones.

Not a bad month for me. 6 sales for $214 gross. Zooms and views still maintaining a fairly high level. CTR knocked for six on one day with around a thousand views in my 'specialist' area where, of course, you have to include the location anyway otherwise no-one will find them. Hope some sales result from this.

Are Alamy stock photographers all ages?
Broad Norfolk replied to geogphotos's question in Community support: ask the forum
Another septuagenarian at 74! Started photography in the early 1950's when I ran around with my Kodak Brownie 127 and have been obsessed ever since. After a reasonably successful career in the oil industry I took early retirement at age 52 and worked my way into my own small photography business which is something I always wanted to do. Stock eventually became a part of it and I just caught the tail end of good prices when I joined Alamy in 2005. Have achieved some 'letters' and have managed LRPS, CPAGB, BPE3 and AFIAP with the last two being the result of entering National and International Salons which I still enjoy. Retirement on the business side may be looming again!! Jim -
For the first 8 months of this year my sales quantity is at 88% of last years total which was my best year. Most positive for me is the revenue side which has already surpassed my previous highest annual total in 2016. An interesting point is that my average per sale (gross) last year was $18 and this year to date has risen to $31. Jim

For Number 4, I've come up with Greater Knapweed too. Jim. -
How was your July 2019?
Broad Norfolk replied to cbimages's topic in Stock photography discussion and contributor experience
Just a couple of sales for the month. A sale on the last day saved it from being the worst month since October 2017! Views and zooms remain fairly healthy. Jim -

Morning Folks, I'll miss out good! It appears to have happened again - anybody else not able to sign into Alamy this morning? I've tried for about two hours now and it just don't want to know. Jim -
All very strange. Yesterday evening at 1903 hrs I uploaded 10 images and it was one of the quickest uploads I've had in recent times. One image was, however, duplicated which was strange but was corrected at this mornings update. Oops, sorry folks, I've just realised you're talking FTP which I assume you are uploading to Alamy externally like FileZila. Mine was direct on the website.... Jim.

How was your May 2019?
Broad Norfolk replied to Bryan's topic in Stock photography discussion and contributor experience
Quiet month for me with just a couple of sales and one was a distributor job which wouldn't buy a slice of toast! However, for year to date, sales and income are both fractionally up on last year so just hope it keeps going.
