  1. I've had similar usage for "promoted content" and got fee slightly more than normal newspaper scheme fee. However it is, and should be, priced as advertising . But Alamy seems to be happy to let this go.??
  2. Don't hold ya breath for a Stockimo sale. Next to useless IMO. The you may gat a sale for $0.16 net. They have falsified the original statement whereby they (Stockimo/Alamy) said that the minimum sale was $5 gross. Now they sell for next to nothing. I don't bother with this nonsense anymore and have never had a reply from my query about sales amounts. However. I have had a couple of sales for +$50 net. But I have 2000 odd images with them.
  3. Hey, thanks Alamy for the 'heads up'. Sure ya people need a break and good luck to them and all at Alamy HQ for the next year and Happy Christmas too. Thanks for a great year with my images on Alamy! Cheers Richard
  4. It looks very similar to a device I photographed in Bath, Somerset. It turned out to be a monitoring system to detect bat population. In my case it was part of a survey on bats by the University of Bath.
  5. I can honestly say I've never ever taken a photograph that I'm 100% happy with. As long as the buyers are, I'm not too fussed. It doesn't have to be 100%, just enough to pay up. “Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.” ― Henri Cartier-Bresson
  6. Is there a McDonalds in Ardara or will that mean a commute? Ha Ha.... No fortunately (unfortunately??) not. Nearest is 40km away. Big commute on my bicycle. Fortunately in my opinion. It's quite a few years since I've been to Ardara (on a geological field trip). My memories are of a nice, quiet Donegal village where a McDonalds would seem a bit out of place. True enough. Still the same quiet village - won the "Best Village to live in Ireland" competition a couple of years back - run by the Irish Times. Busy enough in summer with tourists but dead quiet at this time of year

  8. Think I might just give it all up if Alamy goes Microstock as it seems some of the other big players are heading that way. I'd be better off working in McDonalds. No equipment expenses and a NICE uniform to boot!
  9. Stand by to be shafted by Alamy once again folks! All that precious time (your time and work) to key-word in appropriate sections etc. Same as on Stockimo where, initially, it was stated that the minimum sale would be $5 gross. We now see, routinely, sales of $0.28 gross - without any consultation with the contributor. And don't give me the "It's in the terms and conditions" nonsense. The point is clear. Alamy has enough contributors now to entirely ignore any grievances we may have. Alamy would be profitable with the number of images available if they licensed them for $2 a piece.
  10. Several Alamy Pix here: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/destinations/europe/ireland/wild-atlantic-way-ireland/
  11. Good month for me. Summary for statement period 01 September 2016 to 01 October 2016 (23 item(s) totalling $720.70)
  12. This situation is bloody ridiculous IMO! I have had to chase a good many newspaper usages with Alamy - many licensed from Live News feed. I have also reminded Alamy that it is their responsibility to ensure that usages are paid for. This is part of the reason that they have the contract to license my work in the first place. If Alamy cannot fulfil this part of our contract then any unreported usages WE FIND OURSELVES should be paid at 90% to the photographer.
  13. Yes well we all know that UK weather images from Aberystwyth sell. Not a problem with that but.......... Some of you may have noticed that we have had a major 'terrorist incident' in Nice, France and then an 'attempted' coup in Turkey. So what is the response from the Alamy Live News team? Feck all. IMO. I have placed images (i.e. licensed images) from Turkey for other photographers and my own images relating to this news event in Turkey a good hour after waiting on Live News response. There is nobody at home!!! Get a grip Alamy! Your credibility has taken a big downtur
  14. "Protect the owner" Why? The car is in a public place and the registration is read by anyone who passes by and by security cameras. Protect the owner? This is nonsense.
  15. Are they from The Times by any chance? I've just got notification (not cleared payment) for usages inside and online from December 2015!!! This seems to be an on-going situation with The Times as it has happened before. It seems to be when the images are taken from the Live News feed for some reason. Richard
  16. Yes, none here either. Would, on average, get four or five.
  17. Not sure of average but lowest is $1.61 and highest is $62.50 Pretty much a waste of time IMO as I have 1600 odd pix with Stockimo and only 6 sales for a total of $119.63 ... and this is at the premium rate of 50% . Must be absolute shite for people who signed up for the 20% commission.
  18. I just use the simple, quick click in Remove CA tickbox in LR/ACR. For the fees Alamy are currently charging for licenses of images (next to nothing in most cases - microstock really) it's just not worth the time to do any more than this. For private clients and people paying "top dollar" I would spend a bit more time. Alamy now has just too many images to really care about protecting photographers. It matters little to them whether an image is licensed for $2 or $20. In fact they'd rather sell the license AT ANY PRICE because there are so many images available - 70 million or so.
  19. I started with Alamy in 2006. Since then i have licensed/sold 2 of my initial submission. not sure if they would sell today really as they were shot on a fujifilm 3600 or something like that. Pretty much useless these days for anything except internet/web pix.
  20. Crikey - not a place I would have chosen to be, especially after Halabja in 1988... I presume there's a story behind you being there? It was a self-financed operation though I did get film/processing from The Independent and in the end The Independent got me a flight home on BA as the ticket I had was for Turkish Airlines who decided to go on strike when I needed to get home. I did send four images back on the wire machine from Reuters in Istanbul - this took an incredible (looking at todays technology) 20 mins per B/W image - and obviously one had to process the film and make a print
