  2. Just for clarification - the "AlamySizeChecker" software is 100% third party and not supported officially by Alamy in any way. Our upload tool will check the size of your images at the point of upload to determine suitability.
  3. We posted this up a while back but you should still find this useful if you missed it. Addresses lots of questions about the ranking system and (*insert overly dramatic music here* 'dum dum durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm') BHZ. -------------------- Apologies for the confusion / mystery surrounding 'AlamyRank' - truth is, it's a very complex algorithm and not a simple forumla - also, because we need to make tweaks and improvements to the search functionality as time goes on, there is a certain amount of fluidity to the precise workings of it all. CTR, Sales history, Keyword placement (essential,

  6. We stopped paying by cheque a while ago for all payments. Only payment options are paypal, moneybookers and funds transfer.
  7. Thanks - we'll be sure to review the image size during the next revamp of Manage Images.
  8. Thanks Steve - we'll be sure to review the font size during the next revamp of Manage Images.
  9. Thanks, there are some good ideas here. In James West's (CEO) recent video he confirmed that we are determined to lower the payment threshold. You can view it here in part 2: http://www.alamy.com/Blog/contributor/archive/2013/06/21/5400.aspx

    Location field

The reasons for the new approach to the location field have been detailed in this blog post: http://www.alamy.com/Blog/contributor/archive/2013/06/12/5376.aspx Since we've had time to review the results following the change, we are happy that it has led to an improvement in search results for customers.
  11. Good point! That is an annoying feature. The calculations used to determine sort order etc DO take the refunds into consideration but this screen does not. We've added it to our list of potential future updates for the tool.
  12. The Live News team takes accuracy extremely seriously and obviously we made a mistake here and we are very sorry about it. We edit dozens and dozens of captions every day, correcting mistakes and ensuring that the captions conform as much as possible to Alamy's house style which is of the form: Location, Country. 1st April, 2013. Caption. Credit We try very hard not to introduce our own mistakes into this process, but once in a while we mess up (in this case, there were two Auroras mentioned in the caption, Aurora, Illinois and Aurora, Colorado and we took the wrong one for some of the

    red down arrow

Topic is dead because we have made numerous comments on it, with the latest here: http://discussion.alamy.com/index.php?/topic/492-please-get-rid-of-the-red-ticket/ Thanks Alamy
  15. Used this pseud/keyword search all the time in MI before the changes! Would be nice if Alamy could acknowledge this problem and this thread! It's been up for 6 days without reply. Happy to cut and paste it to Member Services for a response if need be... J Hi Jon, Just a couple of points: 1 - due to the structure of our business on the contributor side, at the moment it's not possible for us to monitor the suggestions thread every day. Instead, we set aside certain times of the month to gather all the suggestions and ideas and then reply if required. If there is anything ur

  18. We have a number of measures in place to fight the attack of daily spam we get but despite all of them, occasional posts still make it onto the board. For that reason we now have a new rule where your first post on the forum must be approved by a moderator before it goes live. This will be for your first post only - after that you are free to post as normal. This means that for new sign-ups, there might be a slight delay in seeing your post live, especially over weekends where our moderating cover will be limited. Many thanks. Alamy
  19. The deadline has been missed now and the response to questions recorded. We will be posting a link to the video response answers soon.
  20. This topic has been done to death now, please see the 3 page merged post on it here. It's worth baring in mind that many people have commented that this forum is an all round nicer place to be than our previous forum - it could well be that having the possibility of down voting is contributing to us seeing an increase in the constructive nature of posts being made. However, as we've said numerous times before now - we will be monitoring the effectiveness of the system and if we feel that the up and down votes are not working then we will change it, and an "up vote" only option would be
  21. Hi - we've made some tweaks to the search engine related to these points that will be going live shortly. Blog post here: http://www.alamy.com/Blog/contributor/archive/2013/06/12/5376.aspx
  22. We've been handed a very specific set of picture need requests from a client, and there are some elements that we can't fulfill, so we thought we would share them here. If you have any images that fit the below descriptions, please upload them to Alamy as soon as possible and let us know when you have done so. Many thanks! Series of photos to show different aspects of a primary school classroom in Chile including displays on walls that contain information in various forms, e.g. calendar, weather, maths on blackboard, graphs, charts, etc. Pupil tables with equal number of chairs arrang
  23. If so, now is your chance. Details here. Alamy Updated. All parts (1-3) now live! Your questions answered (video): http://www.alamy.com/Blog/contributor/archive/2013/06/21/5400.aspx
  24. We do of course accept images with a shallow depth of field (DOF). It's a technique that, if carried out well makes the difference between a good and a great shot. The reason that we don't give visual examples as to what kind of shots would/wouldn't work is because there are so many scenarios that you could apply it makes this almost impossible. When we QC images that have a shallow DOF, we are looking for an obvious point of focus. So long as that point of focus is clear it will pass QC. What we don't want is imagery where the focal point has been missed or it is not obvious enough. T
