  1. Past hour
  2. BHZ? Blimey, kinda feels like talking about Kodachrome these days! Still relevant, do you think?
  3. On the back of some of this, we've made a few tweaks. Related to off-topic and arguing etc, we've now got a warning points system. https://discussion.alamy.com/topic/13008-forum-mini-update/ Hopefully we won't need to use it much and it will help keep things constructive. Cheers James A
  4. Hi All, We've made a few tweaks behind the scenes on the forum to adjust a couple of things - nothing major, and all designed to keep this place as productive as possible. Posts with 10 or more positive reactions will now be highlighted within the thread, this is designed to make the more popular posts stand out There is a new warning system now for users who break rules or cause conflict. Accumulating points may lead to temporary bans on posting for short periods of time You can now add animated gifs to posts. It's just a bit of fun and is also pretty standard across social platforms If we spot users who never contribute to the forum other than clicking the red or green arrows, or targeting specific users, then they may have their ability to click these reactions removed. All other read/write privileges will remain the same We've tweaked a few of the group levels/status titles depending on how many posts you make - just a bit of fun, but to now have the rank of "part of the forum furniture" you'd need to amass more then 10,000 posts Cheers Alamy

  6. Had a bit of a recalculation as due to inflation, the old numbers we're a bit out-dated. 10,000+ now gives you the title.
  7. Presentation/Newsletters - Italy, going by the strange words attached. Just managed to scrape $$
  8. Today
  9. Differently from Alamy, where they start from giving your pics away fro free ( see those clients who buy your pic for newsletter use and the day after they ask for refund so that they have your photo for free for any use they want. Something it happens frequently in my case), Shutterstock starts from 0,25USD but I got several double digit sales, including an interesting one for a calendar cover.
  10. Try to clean up and delete all cookies, links, etc.
  11. Yes, exact same license. I was waiting for these to show up in my sales as I had seen them in the Spanish version of People magazine (online) in January.
  12. Adding the links would be time consuming but feel free to do a Google image search and you should see the result I did.
  13. No change for me, perhaps you could give a bit more detail about operating system etc., and whether Chrome is up to date.
  14. Cranes at Buccleuch Dock. Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England, United Kingdom, Europe. Country: WorldwideUsage: Personal use, Personal prints, cards and gifts. Non-commercial use only, not for resale.Media: Non-commercial, one time, personal/home useStart: 28 May 2020End: 28 May 2025 A rare monochrome sale.
  15. That color of green reminds me of something, but I can't remember what. Sort of chalky. Looks like a beautiful place.
  16. I had been in isolation for two months and they came right up to me, ate grass from my hand. I visited them three times and stayed and watched and took photos. Their presence was so peaceful, it stuck with me for days afterward.
  17. It might have been a figment of my imagination, but I thought that, at one point, I had made the infamous Part of The Furniture brigade. No longer the case, if it was ever thus, only the likes of John now hold the coveted title. Indeed is he the only member?
  18. They will be lured by the decent commission levels and will arrive in droves expecting to sell images every day and they will then start complaining when they get no sales in the first few weeks/months.... and when every image in their submission fails QC because of a problem with one image. Hey ho.... Mark
  19. Worldwide, Commercial electronic, 5 years, Media: Website, app and social media, Any size, $$ Aerial view of Grenoble (France), the Isere and Drac rivers, and the 3 surrounding mountain ranges (Chartreuse, Vercors, Belledonne)
  20. Hi I just realised - after now visiting Alamy Image manager for a while - that the whole right side of the Image Manager does not show up when using Chrome. Fine in MS Edge, but Chrome, which has always worked for me does not show anything now. Is it just me or something has changed globally? Thank you
  21. Interesting perspective. My two Vancouver sales today (see one of them posted above) also say US magazine but were thru a distro. Same price range as well. Do these licensing terms look familiar? Country: United States Usage: Editorial Media: Magazine - print, digital and electronic Print run: up to 10,000 Placement: Inside Image Size: 1 page Start: 01 April 2020 End: 01 April 2025 USA, Magazine - print, digital and electronic
  22. I agree. From what I can tell Alamy offers something a bit different from what else is out there, and I think maintaining that unique position may actually help them to stand out from the similarities among microstock agencies. At the same time they are different from other mid/macro stock agencies that curate their collections with a particular look/aesthetic in mind. Sometimes while those agencies are trying to be unique by curating a particular style of image, they actually start to also become a bit predictable in their own way. I think Alamy's acceptance of a wide variety of images is its strength, along with maintaining high QC standards. It also has its editorial focus too, while not limiting itself to that. Before deciding to join Alamy, I read some positive reviews from both customers and contributors, and that was an encouraging factor in me wanting to sign up with them. I do hope they can maintain their unique position in the market into the future.
  23. The West End of Vancouver looking over at English Bay. One of two that showed up today, both were used in a Spanish People Magazine back in January. Low $$ for each. They license says US magazine, but it's a distributor.
  24. As far as I can see, most of the images available on a microstock website are also available on every other microstock websites. If I am right, when all companies sell the exact same products, it all comes down to the price. So all these agencies have to keep their prices as low as possible to remain competitive, because buyers know for sure they all sell the same stuff. And also, as far as I can see, most of the images available on a microstock website already have hundreds, thousands, if not millions of similars. Can you imagine a client searching through something like 2.5 million images of apples to find the exact apple he/she is looking for? So, growing the collection might not be the best way for these agencies to rise the profits. Lowering the commissions might be a better way. Hopefully, Alamy will keep a large collection of unique and exclusive images for which prices can be negotiated.
