  1. The other annoyance (and regular occurence) is having to wade through individually captioned shots from one event on the Live News page. Today, 23rd March 2024, we have 118 images from the Australian GP, all incorrectly captioned with a file number only. Looks very amateurish.
  2. 15th January 2024. Plane passes the Sun on a freezing day in London, UK
  3. Some really interesting transparencies you have saved there, well worth a look through. For what it’s worth a few captions which may or may not be useful: 0096IDM.jpg - plane is a Vickers Vanguard 0151IDM.jpg - plane is a VC10 0274IDM.jpg - nearest plane is a Boeing 727 0290IDM.jpg - most boats in the harbour are the traditional Scottish Seine Netters (remember them well - went out in one overnight once off West Coast). 0968IDM.jpg - parts of temple: Pediment, Tympanum, Cornice, Frieze, Architrave, Capital (Corinthian order) (remembered from study of architecture at art school - Greek/Roman styles drummed into us).
  4. Some December 2023 night shots from London, UK. Excess outside The Ritz (20 feet away) Fortnum & Mason Advent Calendar (40 feet away) Crescent Moon with earthshine (238,855 miles away) Planet Venus (38 million miles away) Planet Jupiter (440 million miles away)
  5. On my 2020 iMac 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7 (Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB) denoise on 6000iso 22mb image is around 12 secs; on my 2020 13” MacBook Pro 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 (Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB) around 45 secs. I use denoise a lot for very low light theatre images, but mainly processed from the iMac.
  6. Various night images Lunar total eclipse Comet Neowise Orion Nebula in narrowband Star trails, Provence, France Blue Spotted Stingray, Maldives Piccadilly Circus Tower Bridge Westminster Abbey Horse Guards Parade
  7. No need to sit up all night. Fit an intervalometer to the camera, set it for maximum number of shots at, say, 15-30 secs each, go for a sleep and let the camera do the work. I’ve done this under dark skies in southern France when on holiday. I can remember being in the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel on a clear August night around 1989. Meteorites were visible continuously. Seems the Perseids is getting much thinner every year, no matter how much magazines and the papers talk it up.
  8. Right hand shot: officer at front with red plume is Coldstream Guards. Your shots are too small for me to determine the rest, however 1. White plume to left on bearskin - Grenadier Guards. 2. No plume on bearskin - Scots Guards. 3. Green & white plume on left - Welsh Guards. 4. Blue plume on right - Irish Guards. 5. Red plume on right - Coldstream Guards. Collar button emblem is easiest to identify, if you close in on your images.
  9. I think The Ugly Duchess image is incorrectly attributed, it’s mine (Malcolm Park): 2PC5B10
  10. Dodge Suburban Spectator Wagon? Correction: can’t be, it’s 4 door, above is 2 door.
  11. I had the Nikon Reflex Mirror 500mm f8 version for several years, sold only 3 months ago. Interesting lens, bit like a mini catadioptric astronomical telescope. I have a few shots on Alamy taken with it. Can just about be used handheld if the subject is very bright, otherwise need to be secured to a sturdy tripod and use a shutter release. They can be picked up in v good condition quite cheaply, definitely not a lens for fast action. Has slightly odd "bokeh" looking like donut rings which didn’t bother me that much
  12. Courtesy of the BPPA, a link to police guidance when dealing with press photographers (read right hand page): https://thebppa.com/metropolitan-police-media-guidelines/ ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) also issued an A4 sheet some time ago stating the same information. I used to carry several copies in my camera bag, just in case. See also this: https://www.npcc.police.uk/Publication/NPCC FOI/Information Management/221 15 Guidance for Photographers att 01 of 01.pdf section 4.35 onwards seems relevant.
