Indeed most of the lenses that I use are fixed focal length, so we go from a 12 mm Rokinon, via a Sony 20mm, to a Pentax 28mm then a Pentax 35mm, followed by an Olympus 50mm, then a Pentax 75-150, and finally a Sigma 100-300 f4 - which I rarely use, too heavy. All, except the 20 are used manual focus with the a6500. Only the Rokinon and Sony are native Sony fit, the remainder are used with adapters. I find that the aged full frame fixed focal length film camera lenses provide better results than any Sony zoom that I have tried. Wouldn't do for a live news or action photographer, but suits me just fine.

Some of the live news shooters upload multiple similars, some so similar I have great difficulty telling them apart, but they continue to sell. Take, for example, Bank of England shots, there are more of them that you can shake a stick at and they continue to be uploaded in quantity - but always with a text relating the shot to the current date and economic situation. However, when I look at my measures, I occasionally see an image appear that isn't the best in my collection, and regret not deleting it. As has been suggested, seasonal variation is probably important, particular months, blue sky, dull grey or rain etc. Should the sun ever shine again, take a trip to Birkenhead park a pleasant jaunt even if you fail to find any worthwhile shots.

I have a vague memory of one of the UK high street banks objecting to photos of their buildings/logos, I seem to recall that it came to nothing, Then wasn't there something about UK rail stations, again it faded away. Maybe in those days Alamy had a stronger sense of what was and was not legal and wasn't prepared to be bullied.

Photos taken at a marathon might normally be considered as live news or reportage, and would not be subject to the normal QC procedure. Once uploaded they would be marked as being news or reportage and would automatically include the message "This image could have imperfections". However to load Live News you need to have a Live News account, and to upload Reportage you would need to be an established contributor with a good QC record. I wouldn't be uploading anything shot in difficult conditions as my initial submission. Pick some boring static subjects lit by good light, maybe consider using a tripod. Buildings, scenic views, flowers etc should be fine. They won't be judged on aesthetics, just technical quality.
