I recently started sending my pictures to an agency in India for keywording, the agency I found (recommended on the Photoshelter site)  is  keywording for Alamy, Getty etc.

Having received several batches back that they had worked on I found quite a few mistakes which made me check very single photo, spent a whole weekend going over one batch of about 50 pics correcting them.

Hoping someone can recommend an agency that I can rely on to get it right.

The best agency in the world is the one between your ears.

Absolutely. The only external agency I would entrust is one which is actually marketing the images themselves and know their market to the uttermost, and even then I would want the final say over my own images.

Sorry guys, that's not the answer I was looking for, as I mentioned I just don't have the time, I am a professional sports photographer shooting an imense amout of pics, so please no more "funny answers" only constructive ones.

Nothing "funny" in what was said. Lots of full time, day in, day out professional photographers on these forums, myself included, all equally busy. You've had to make time to correct a massive batch of duff keywording, so use the time better, the answers above really ARE the most constructive ones. No agency can possibly  understand your needs as well as you can, they are all going to make massive errors like the one you started with.  If you just need a little more in depth inspiration, try http://microstockgroup.com/tools/keyword.php

The constructive answer, which was given to you three times now, is: do your own keywording. You have no time to do keywording, but you had to make time to check what the agency did and then do it all over. No, that's not funny.

The main problem with keywording agencies is that they can only add words that describe what they can see in your image. They won't know the names of people or places unless you provide that information. If English is not their native language they will have to rely on spellcheck which isn't always that great.

Also, they tend to go for the conceptual/creative sort of keywords that might well cause damage at Alamy for images which are editorial.

I understand that Clemency Wright Consultancy provides their service to Robert Harding Picture Library who in turn distribute widely including to Alamy - so track some down and have a look.

thanks for the info, I will check the Robert Harding pics to see what sort of keywords they contain. I do think that some agencies overdo it with their keywords, for me it is acceptable if the keywords only relate to what is seen on the picture.

Robert, that's fine with me if the keyword agency just write what they can see, all my photos contain  the basic info, like name of the place, if it is a festival, also the name of that and so on.

Clemency Wright Consulting and I collaborated on a LinkedIn blog post about keywording a few weeks ago (with examples of some of my mediocre keywording and what was done to remedy). You can access it with the follow link:

I'm surprised that 'refugee' wasn't a keyword in Case 1. Also, 'Europe'.

Clemency asked me whether he was a refugee and I couldn't say for sure, only that he is from Nigeria. So she felt it best to leave it out. Perhaps he was an 'economic migrant' which I'll include.

As for not including 'Europe', the advice I received is that since in the shot there is no backdrop to show the geographical setting and we have to think that if we add europe, and customers search for photos of young men in europe, they are specifically looking for the results to depict the countries of europe as opposed to this type of plain background.

Hi Everyone, I have used Clemency Wright based in the North of the UK. I don't have time to do the key wording myself. I have noted an uplift in click-throughs and zooms. As yet, no surge in sales, but I only started using her in August.

I generally label the locations, but they put in the synonyms and all those other bits which are such a pain to do.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards

Matt

Yes, those are well keyworded. About as well as mine.

BTW do you check them? Confectionery isn't spelt with an "a".

Key to all this is price that a good keywording service willl charge, and for a primarily editorial library like Alamy, the margins are going to be very, very tight.....

For a commercial collection at a more specialist outlet the  figures may well work out. But here? I have my  doubts
