Copyright or not

Recommended Posts

I have taken some pics of our local cenotaph with poppy wreaths in a public park. There are no people in the images and no readable names in the images in question. Is a cenotaph copyright and only eligible for editorial only use. Guidance would be appreciated

No.

Even if any IP rights in a 1920s cenotaph hadn't expired long ago,  taking a photograph of a sculpture in a public place doesn't infringe its copyright. Inclusion of names isn't relevant but even if it troubled you ethically, most relatives will be long dead. I certainly don't worry about it and I have images of memorials with names from the Falklands war up here.
