  5. Image optionsin out?

Just been and checked my opt ins, and outs, under additional revenue options, following a doubtful personal license. There is now the option to opt in or out of something called images options. Wasn't there a few weeks back when I opted out of the Press Scheme. What is Image options? We’ll offer customers variations of the images you provide to give them a greater choice, for example creating an additional black and white version of a coloured image could be an image option in the future. http://www.alamy.com/image-options.aspx Must have been in the initial contract, as it says I opted in, back in 2003. Looks like customers will have the choice of an automatically desaturated image, in the future.

  7. Telegraph Syndication?

Anyone on here had a telegraph story appear on Yahoo? My picture appeared in the Telegraph on Feb 1st http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02/01/motorists-spend-four-days-year-looking-parking-space/ The story also appears on Yahoo here https://uk.news.yahoo.com/motorists-spend-four-days-looking-085239462.html It's not an RF image and Yahoo are displaying it on their site, and not just providing a link to the story. Interestingly the Yahoo version of the story contains the full picture credit picturesbyrob / Alamy Stock Photo whereas the Telegraph have only credited alamy It would seem to me that as Yahoo is presenting it on their site, to it's readers, it's a separate use of of my RM image.

  11. Hi all, I'm new here! I've had a look around but was wondering whether there was a regularly updated list/ article published of desired photographs/ trending topics? e.g. current stories would most likely be around; Brexit (Boris Johnson, Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn, Michael Gove) Wimbledon (people queuing, players, celeb spotting) Does a list like this exist as far as anyone is aware? Thanks! vixff

  16. Hope for the future

With lots of doom and gloom around in the market maybe a glimmer of hope. Yesterday I found myself on a big blue jet coming home to some decent cheese (hurrah for cheese!) from a trip to Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Quite a few striking things on that trip. But one which may hold hope for the future. Whilst a number of years ago it seemed that everyone one met was a photographer... now, the only photographer I met was the lady who rented me a room in Lima. SLR's? I saw a couple... but very few and far between. That may be camera snobbery on my part... and I know that some agents do accept images taken on a telephone... but only a few. And it seemed like the vast majority were taking photos on their phones. There is also the fact that price developments have made many professionals risk averse in making such investments. But could it be that a large part of our competition has ebbed away? And whilst the images which they took before are still on the shelves ... the world still turns and those images become dated. Or maybe I am just kidding myself to justify my risk.
  17. Uploading IPhone Photos

I was wondering if photos taken on an IPhone should be exclusively uploaded via stockimo app, or can you also upload them via alamy on the computer ?

  20. A must read for everyone. Taylor Swift has just won a victory over Apple, but at the same time she (or her management) restricts photographers at her concerts. A must read. http://metro.co.uk/2015/06/22/photographer-accuses-taylor-swift-of-being-a-hypocrite-over-copyright-in-new-open-letter-following-her-apple-victory-5257575/?fb_ref=Default

  23. So here I sit, staring at the screen of the new MacBook Pro that arrived last night, facing the decision I've dreaded--whether to sign up for Creative Cloud or switch. I've used Photoshop and Lightroom for many years, I like them plus they do everything I need and more. However I hate the idea of a monthly payment. What are my other options? So far I'm considering: Purchase the new Lightroom 6 but can it be installed standalone? Go with Lightroom 5.5 but I worry there may be compatibility issues with my Sony A7ii raw files. Purchase CS6 standalone but its very expensive and Adobe is going to stop supporting it very soon so then it will presumably become glitchy without updates. Buy Adobe Elements and do without many of my favorite features. Buy Corel and settle for less than the best. DXOptic Pro - I know nothing about it and it sounds like Lightroom is better for about the same price. Other? If I go with the Adobe CC what can I do to reduce the monthly cost, are there coupons or discounts available? Should I buy an old version of Photoshop to use for upgrading? Also, I use Topaz plugins a lot and would miss them. I'm open to suggestions...
  24. A quick heads up on something i'm doing in a few months time... A ONE OFF SEMINAR - HOW TO MAXIMISE SALES THROUGH ALAMY. Stock imaging and how to sell through Alamy Photo Library – maximise your sales. Exciting news, for some it has been increasingly difficult to make an impact and reasonable income from stock images, this has become more difficult by the increasing number of digital photographs being made available in the market place, but this is about to change and you can be part of that change! I have recently discovered someone who has inspired me – he is probably the top contributor and seller in the UK with Alamy – one of the UK’s largest picture agencies. Keith is a successful freelance news, editorial, arts and features photographer based in Aberystwyth on the west Wales coast. In a career spanning nearly 35 years he has covered a vast range of stories and events for major national newspapers and magazine in the UK and abroad and has been commissioned by major organisations such as the BBC, the National Trust, the National Lottery, and the Welsh Government. His photographs have been published in hundreds of books and magazines all over the world As an additional way of earning a living from his work he contributes to a small number of photo agencies and picture agencies in the UK. Since joining Alamy in 2006 he has grossed over $270,000 in image sales, that’s an average in excess of $30,000 a year – enough to buy his house, with the vast majority of those photos made within walking distance of his home in the centre of Aberystwyth!! Having not been abroad since 1987 he makes a virtue of working in a very small local area, and finds new ways of looking and seeing, and finding the commercial potential of everyday situations and activities, and he sells at least one image a day! I have invited him to lead a 1 day seminar/workshop where he will show examples of his work, talk about what makes a saleable image, how best to get them on Alamy’s site and how to keyword those images. There will be an opportunity for you to take images and have them assessed to see if they fit the ideal for Alamy. The seminar will be held at the Stratton House Hotel in Cirencester on Saturday 25th April 2015. Space will be limited so to take full advantage of this seminar and open up the opportunity for you to begin selling more images book your space now. The seminar fee is £150.00 and will include tea/coffee and a light lunch. To book call Graham Light on 01793 752671 or email him at consult@abbey-studios.co.uk www.abbeyphotoschool.co.uk and www.abbey-studios.co.uk
