Wasson my bewtys? I have a question.

30 posts in this topic

Wasson = What's on

Bewtys = Beauties

Bleddy = Bloody

ansum = Handsome

Cornish / West Devon dialect of English.  And, no, we don't all talk like this down here.  Unless we feel like it.

Knew some bugger would get it dreckly. Proper job John.

Far too fast for dreckly.   :)

LOL

Cornish?

wim

English: wasson = wazzup = que pasa (get the drift- just gessin)

Thank you, yes, I got all that.

Not hard at all.

Have a look at this one about AAVE. I can recommend the second part.

Brilliant video. I learnt something new today. And Shergar is still alive and kicking it seems.

And m

Wasson my bewtys?

Is that Gaelic....?????  :huh:

Cheers,

Philippe

It's definitely not Gaelic - there is no w or y in the Irish language.

I think he is saying "what's on my beauties?" - west country English (Cornwall or Devon I think).

Aha! That's why I don't find those words in my Gaelic dictionary ^_^

For the moment I'm brushing up my Gaelic because I intend to visit Scotland soon and want to be able to communicate with those indigenous people.

Conas atá tú

Is mise Philippe

An bhfuil Béarla agat?

Ar mhaith leat damhsa liom?

So, those few sentences should suffice  <_<

Cheers,

Philippe

And most importantly...

Póg mo thóin.  :D  :ph34r:

Phil

To that, I would reply "Gabh isteach sa seomra folctha agus nigh tú féin-_-

Cheers,

Philippe  ;)

:D  :D  :D

It's a normal way to introduce foreigners to the Irish language!
