Lets discuss high pricing on this forum.

Recommended Posts

Just thinking about how all the big sales do not get reported on the forum because that person would then be breaking their cover and have people copying their style, topic, or whatever reason people think the sale arose.

Perhaps Alamy could divulge the top ten monetary sales each month?  Just the monetary amount.

Would that be an encouragement?  Give balance to the low pricing topics?  Make people despair, as they are not earning the same?

This once was on the old forum:

May 2, 2012 - The highest single license via Alamy I have heard of (just heard - cannot be certain) was $40,000. This was around 2006/7. A nicely executed...

And:

The highest single license via Alamy I have heard of (just heard - cannot be certain) was $40,000.
If true then I would have a very close second.............cannot offer any more information.

An overall yearly or monthly average would be nice. It would not give away too much, while providing us with some sort of beacon.

I'll start with my over all average.

Just in Summary of items sold

with statement period set to all:

Summary for statement period 01 January 2000 to 31 July 2013 (xxx item(s) totalling $yyyyy.yy)

X item(s) totalling Y :

Y/X = $79.94

That's including Novel Use; Newspaper deal; not corrected for the wrongly counted refunds etc. Just the rough number.

Sadly. the big ticket sales are few and far between these days. I had a look at the last year's list and it topped out at $634 for a German book cover. That was an archival shot of George Adamson. Three years back there was that whopper for an exclusive in the banking sector which would be welcome to come 'round again but I'm not holding my breath. There are a few drop my way in the $200 area, but getting getting more rare.

A high one for me these days from Alamy would be 100+ whereas from my Getty pics 1000+ are still common. This month I made as much from Shutterstock off 100 photos as I have from 6000 pics with Alamy. Something is drastically wrong with this equation.

I'm getting a few $200+ but have not had any $300-500 this summer. However, they have always been sporadic. What I would like as a tool (and I have not done the necessary spreadsheet to make this easy, but maybe could) would be a way to see the total earnings for any given picture. I have some such consistent sellers that even at UK newspaper scheme rates (apparently with repeat fees) one or two are now up in that bracket from what seems to be a single client even though each use is a small amount.

My highest ever sale was for $245 - but that was 6 years ago and was my second ever sale.

Triple figures is a good sale for me nowadays. Best this year $129.

I get $91.24 but that is based on X = 1!   :D

Over a year, the average of the 12 monthly highest, I would guess at $10,000

Ok... what do you base that figure on?

This was a complete guess, based on thin air.  :)   Thinking on the lines of top football players, the top players will give the headline figures whilst most other players will get much more mainstream figures!

Jeff, your code is in unbreakable, for the most part. But I have to say it does provide us with much entertainment, and your work ethic cannot be described as anything but unquestionable.

My highest so far = 242.48 RF(may 2013)

I'd have to wade through my statements from elsewhere but I see a similar imbalance as Long Journey is reporting, Gty and iStock are doing better than S'stock & Dreams for me.

I only really started contributing here in late Jan with two thirds of my images uploaded in past 3 months so the numbers are hard to compare

By the way I think this is a very useful discussion and it helps us all gauge the market to some degree

I've just had a few Daily Fail web sales, very very low prices for specialist subjects. The last one was of an old Wedge shaped Austin Princess car, now it wasn't exactly an award winning picture, but they wanted a picture of a wedge shaped princess and by no means is mine the only one out there, it was priced exactly the same as generic stock (test tubes with coloured liquids, money failing, people shaking hands etc etc) of which there is loads and loads.

Alamy's strength is in the depth of the subject matter, we need too figure out a way to ensure that we all benefit from the obscure, without pricing ourselves of the market for the routine. Maybe the pricing of imagery could be in some way inversely proportional to the number images returned in a search?

Any ideas?

I work in a school as my full time job. I opened a box of Geography books, and looked at the inside cover. It was littered with Alamy/contributername all over it. We bought in about 50-60 of those books as have loads of other schools, so the money is being made, it's just not well reported. Books seem to be the bread and butter of big sales here.

Funny that. My number since my first sale in 2004 until today is $81. I was never in NU or the Newspaper deal.

Your not being in NU nor the Newspaper Deal is probably offset by my one time ATH (all time high) ;-)

We share some destinations and subjects, but not a lot. I am definitely jealous of your young Bowie; Monty Python!

We have quite different collections (size and styles) so why the similar average? Is it similar for all? Similar only for those who started well before the 2008 crisis?

Similar for greybeards only? ;-)

Come on give us some more averages!
