New AIM tool for moving and merging tags?

Recommended Posts

I just noticed a tool in AIM I hadn't seen before.  Either it's new or I overlooked it before.  There's a little cross that appears when I hover over the tags that allows me to change the order of the tags, as well as to merge tags together.  I found it quite handy.

Yes not noticed that before i can merge tags together but cannot change the order of the tags. How have you managed to change the order of your tags?

Craig

Oops, my error.  It's only for moving when merging.  I had thought I was changing the order for all tags, but that was only when one tag was moved to merge with another.

I don't see a little cross when I hover over tags. What do you have to do to get the cross?

Yes it helps a bit.

There's quite some skill involved in getting the word order right. And what happens when you get it wrong and there's another tag just like it? Poof!

Like when I just tried to make a tag Edinburgh Royal Mile and Royal Mile Edinburgh. The same with creating a supertag when there's an identical normal tag already there.

Someone found a really playful way to implement copy/paste. Or drag and drop. While dragging alone is hopefully still to come.

Has someone in the accounting department told the team that copy/paste already existed?

And actually comes free?

Is far easier to use?

Lets me re-arrange my order?

Ten times quicker?

Lets me undo it?

Does not shoot my ships out of the sky delete my words?

All for free.

But yes in this game this new weapon helps a bit.

How does it work, please?

Edit- worked it out. you have to refresh your AIM. Then a big cross appears letting you drag two tags together.

This will help a bit with those over-the-50-limit legacy images. Combine tags to get the numbers down. I hope.

It's working now i've refreshed AIM.

I don't like it though - I used to click on an existing tag to copy certain words, but you can't do that any more.

Also if you have 2 latin names that AIM has now split into 2 tags such as 'Lycaena phlaeas', if you drag 'Lycaena' onto the 'phlaeas' it forms 'phlaeas Lycaena'  so you have to do it counter-intuitively.

I think Alamy have employed someone specifically to make the whole process as difficult as possible.

Move the cursor to the outside/beginning of any or all tags>click and scroll across and the you can highlight and copy.

Or click just outside the tag, drag and ctrl-C as usual.

It's still not behaving like plain text, though.

Oh I get it.  The direction arrows need to get slightly bigger when in between tags in order to select by click and drag.  Otherwise the regular size direction cursor wants to cut and paste the tag to another one.  Very tricky to distinguish.

Almost as bad as trying to delete a dozen or more duplicate tags.

Not impressive.

I seem to have figured this new tool out, but I'm not sure why it's useful. I seldom want / need to merge tags. Perhaps I'm missing something...

Too bad this feature couldn't be modified to allow us to change the order of tags. That would be very helpful.

Thanks I can see that now - still tricky though.

Do you mean you have found a way to move tags? I only seem to be able to merge tags.

Deleting tags has just become more difficult. Like many photographers I'm using a Wacom pen, that may be the problem. I have to tap around 10-12 times to delete a tag. All the other taps result in the move/merge icon.

Maybe I should use a phone.

Oh I get it: an Xbox!

Less QQ more Pew Pew, right?

edit:

If you think we do not have a delete key on our keyboards, why not give us a trash/recycle bin?

- because there is no trash bin on an iPad? Of course that's it: it actually is an iPhone app.
