Responding to alien search terms

Recommended Posts

Hi!

When looking at view grid of my images I have noticed twice lately that an image of mine would get a view for a search term that I cannot recognize, meaning that the image does not have that as a keyword.

The latest offender is the word "backpulver". I have never used that keyword, yet I have an image collecting a view for it. Moreover, when I go check out the entire Alamy and punch in "backpulver", none of my images show up.

The other occurrence was my images getting a view for a non-English search term. Needless to say, all of my keywords are in English.

Has anyone else seen this? It appears the "ghost" views are accounted for when CTR is calculated.

Thanks guys!

You have tabletop shots of baking powder. Perhaps a German speaker was searching for Backpulver and the search engine (Alamy's or a distributor's) automatically translated.

Yes, Alamy does translate your keywords into German as it has a .de website. I still add some German keywords to my German images, but only because I copy over.

I think it may be done on the fly, because when I look at my images on the German site they only seem to show the German words I've put there myself.

It doesn't seem to apply to French or Italian.

On the Alamy homepage, right down at the bottom left, there is an option to change the language to German.

A search for Backpulver brings up 6000 results.

My thoughts on computer translation of single words are well documented, but on this occasion the results seem pretty good.
