Cheltenham Festival

Recommended Posts

I'm going to the Cheltenham Festival tomorrow (Friday); Gold Cup day. Looking for some good stock opportunities and maybe news images. Has anyone been there before, and if so, do security or the organisers allow people with 'pro' looking cameras to wander around taking pictures?

I know some venues and organisiations won't allow it without the appropriate passes.

Rob.

Rob, I worked on the local papers there in the 80's - I doubt you'll hit any issues shooting crowd shots, but you won't be allowed in the press areas without accreditation. Nor will you get accreditation on the day, normally, you need to apply a few months beforehand. You may be able to get a few race shots over peoples shoulders, but in truth, at Cheltenham, you'll be seven people back from the barrier unless you go very early. Same with the parade ring too, it's monumentally busy ...

For all that, great event, and you're more likely to do well with crowd pix of happy punters, (winners, losers and boozers) than you will with action, as all the agencies (PA, Reuters) will be filing direct as each race finishes.

Enjoy your day out!

Tony

Thanks Tony,

I think crowd shots are really going to be my priority. Always seems to be scope for them in some newspapers. Not really counting on getting anywhere near the horses.
