New IM: Standard UI behaviour

I'd prefer it if the new Image Manager would behave like standard user interfaces on PC and Mac.

More specifically:

- Clicking on an image automatically deselects the previously selected image. Multiple images shall be selected using the Shift or Ctrl (Cmd on MacOS) key.

- Pasting text into the Add new tags text box using Ctrl-V (Cmd-V on MacOS) shall only paste the text into the field, and not automatically add a new tag. Please get rid of this. Pasting shall be pasting only, so that, if desired, the pasted text can be edited before pressing Enter/Return to add it as a new tag.

+1

..... and make it possible to drag & drop tags / supertags so we can re-arrange them in the order we want them to appear.

...and oh - for future images - the first supertag you select should show first, the second selected supertag should show in second place, etc. Ah well, it's all explained here.

Cheers,

Philippe

+1 for all of the above suggestions. It is horrible to use as it is at the moment.

Some people here has said, if they knew ahead how the new interface worked, they would have made changes. I haven't been ported over yet. Any suggestion what I might want to change, before I get updated. I have used all three boxes as intended, so comprehensive has some duplicate words.

Do I want to change word order so the import makes more sense?

Anything else? Since I can't really see the new yet, and won't be able to change after the fact. Advise is welcomed.

I do feel the two suggestions made at the top of this thread are important but to my mind the first in particular is obviously a Tablet / PC thing and I can see the reasons for being more Tablet friendly.

A preference to  select Tablet interface or Desktop interface would be ideal I think - in fact I would have thought this was detectable by the software ?

Overall I think the design shows a lot of thought and there is more to like than otherwise but I do want more ability to copy / reuse with editing for tags please!

It only really applies to legacy pictures - but I have a lot - a facility to split a tag up into component words would be useful.

Hi - just a quick comment on this.

Different methods of selecting images were tested across a wide range of users, including testing where we filmed testers and recorded the screen actions.

The version that has made it to this release gave the best results across the board. With "standard" UI behavior for selecting images in place, users were continuously deselecting images accidentally. This became frustrating when working across large batches or multiple submissions. Therefore the "clear selection" button was added and the selection method we have in place today was introduced.

This also works well across users accessing the site via touchscreens which are becoming increasingly popular not just through tablets, but through laptops and some desktops.

Flagging images in popular programs such as Lightroom are also selected in this way should you choose to do so.

There will be an adjustment period whilst users get to grips with the new system but please be assured that the current system was put in place after lots of testing between the different options across a wide range of users.

Cheers

And the opposite - a facility to join existing tags together, as well as being able to edit an existing tag.

But anything they do would have to work with an iPad which doesn't have a Shift, Ctrl or Cmd key.I think the way around this is to have a preferences/options page or tab where they can choose the way selection behaviour works.

"But anything they do would have to work with an iPad"

Don't mess things up for everyone else simply to accommodate iPad users (this post written on an iPad, but I would not dream of using it for keywording).

I'm using a PC, I don't run my browser full screen as keywords and such may be visible in another application. On my system anyway the middle column with actual images is almost non-existent, and filled with the filter and search section. The three sets of columns need to be user adjustable in width (or proper HTML used so automaticly adjust, scale).

Not so much of a problem with twin monitors which many of us run.

Allowing iPad users to tag is great. I do as much tagging or work on legacy images on my iPad as I do on my desktop. Day=desktop

evening=iPad.
