MircoV
Hello guys, I just want to share some results coming from my experience. I am the person that next to Alamy also submit(ed) to micros. I did that already for many years. In those years there was one micro agency that had always the first place but in the last two years think where turning for me completely. Those top micro agency and some others started to show dramatically decline in sales. Following other contributors there they experienced the same. In the meantime Alamy showed and different pattern to me. Revenue was growing for me month by month. My Alamy graph looks almost like a mountain going up, for revenue and sales while micros are going down. In the meantime i deleted most of the micro accounts that had no meaning to me reducing them to two only (the two largest earners). Now it happened..... since two months Alamy is my biggest earner leaving the two top micro agencies behind. For me it is a great result looking at the large price difference. It is amazing for me to see Alamy giving me 100+ dollar sales while micro is available. It shows that people are still willing to spend that money. I guess it is the choice and customer service that keeps customers coming back to make those great sales. I am happy that i kept supporting Alamy and i will continue doing so. Betty LaRue
Good for you! Good for Alamy. Glad to hear you are doing well here, Mirco.
MircoV
Thanks Betty for your nice words. Actually i dont want to praise me.... its more like a praise to Alamy. I am also trying to do most as possible with on Agency since my time is very limited. Have a "regular" job. Next to that spending much time with my child since he is autistic that means going regular to therapy with him. So i want to optimize my time for photography and submitting most to one place. Since Alamy has large amount of distributors and soon also prints will be included Alamy looks like a great candidate for me. Also soon we can show that our images are exclusive on Alamy with the new contributor tools.
Lynn Palmer
I don't contribute to micro stock agencies, only Alamy. There are things I wish could be improved at Alamy (like number of sales) but overall my earnings per license average slightly more than $100 per license. No complaints here. Mirco Mirco, sharing your observations about your experience on micros VS Alamy should help fellow photographers who come across it in a 'google' search.... A few photographer friends of mine have considered contributing to stock agencies and asked me for advice. I urged them to stay away from micros, because, briefly, it's selling one's time and effort too cheaply, and can be rather soul sucking. Arletta
And I can confirm what Mirco says - microstock is not (anymore) the place worth any time spent on it. However I left micros around 2 years ago, and left some old files with the best earner to observe trends. Without uploading new stuff I had regular payments on some nice level. Until last Dec. when it collapsed. What I can see now (and other people can confirm) is that the best of micro agency has fallen down totally, while Alamy keeps improving year by year. Currently I support macrostock, self pricing agencies who share fair 50%, and POD sites. I just wish I knew them years ago...
AlessandraRC
I have been contributing here for 11 months and also to micro stock agencies. In the beginning micro was earning me more cash but that was overshadowed by my first sale here. Since then Alamy has been ahead. One thing worth mentioning, however, is that my ports here and elsewhere overlap only to some extent and here it is twice as large. Since a while ago I have decided to only upload photos of people to Alamy , and only as RM. It is an extra protection for me, my family and my models. Same with my best landscape and food pictures that I don't want to sell for .25c. I was excited about my sales in micro in the beginning but now I start to feel that it is a little pointless. But there are things that have a better chance to sell there, for instance backgrounds, isolated objects in white, and some conceptual stuff for blogs of which I have sold quite a few elsewhere.
