Hello, I just downloaded Stockimo and uploaded 2 photos.

Where can I find more information about the process and experience with Stockimo?

How long does it take to rate the photos? Should I use filters?

Images will be rated by 3 judges and each will give your image a score out of 4. If the average score is 2.3 or greater then your image will be accepted and put on sale. If the average is less than 2.3, the image will be rejected. This process can take anywhere between a couple of hours and 2 - 3 days but 24 hours is fairly average.

 

With regards to filters.. yes.. absolutely. The more filters and processing you apply, the more likely it seems that your image will be accepted. I've only had a handful of images accepted by Stockimo without applying a filter or effect.

The best thing to do is just to play and not be put off by rejections... there's no limit to how many images you can upload and how many rejections you can have on Stockimo.

 

If you haven't already, you might want to think about downloading an app to edit/manipulate/apply filters to your images. 'Snapseed' is a free app and is probably both the most powerful and most used app within the Stockimo community. I also quite like an app called 'Stackables'.

I think this is the quandry for me with Stockimo...  to get an image accepted by Stockimo, and with a 'good score' I tend to have to apply subtle to heavy filters.

But the images that actually seems to sell or appear in the 'Customer Likes' tab tend to be the images that have been manipulated the least as your numbers testify to.

 

This might just be down to the quality of my images.. ether the subject matter or the fact that I have an iPhone 4s which doesn't take the same amazing pictures that the new iPhone 6s does... meaning that I have to apply effects to hide the flaws in the iPhone 4s image.

hi Alex, as well as the 'customer likes' tab on the app, it's also worth looking at the curated collection   http://www.alamy.com/category/stockimo.html  & the weekly 'grid of greatness' to get an idea of the feel & style of the collection. 

 

I have found that my images tend to rate higher with subtle edits that enhance the mood of the image. Snapseed is a great 'go to' app, however, I find the 'grunge' effect is to strong for my taste & the hdr effect too grainy & garish unless significantly dialled back. I use Stackables for adding texture/grunge effects & VSCO for general editing & subtle filmic efffects. Enlight is also excellent.  Not forgetting, of course, the native iphone app!

I've been captioning and tagging as I submit and then when they get rejected I get upset because I spent time submitting them.

That's exactly what I've found, I've got 73 now, but no sales and sometimes if one is rejected I just give it a bit more filtering.

It can be annoying as I see some similar photos to what have failed that have passed, so sometimes, for me, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what is going on in the judging process

I put a caption and then just two or three keywords when I initially submit (bare minimum).. I feel that spending a long time keywording images that get rejected is just wasting your time, particularly if I then re-edit the rejections with some new filters and resubmit. Once an image is accepted, I go back and add all my keywords then.

I submitted a handful a while back and found the more filtered, the more likely to be accepted. I have some of the same on SS, DT and Fotalia instant where they tend to sell for me. Once I found out Stockimo images were being licensed via SS I figured I'd just submit them to all the sites. Some of my Stockimo rejects (as well as those Stockimo accepted) have sold well on FT, SS and DT. I find the upload process cumbersome so haven't done as much as I'd planned but I love the idea of being able to play with images and upload them to Alamy without fear of rejection. I'm planning to replace my 4S with a 6S Plus this week and with spring and summer ahead, hope to really give Stockimo a go. I won't mind the cumbersome upload process so much when I'm sitting on a beach ...

Here's a thought - or two!  I started uploading my phone images, shot on a Samsung Galaxy S5 some 18 months ago.  At that time Alamy said they were working on an Android App !!??

 

So, I have to download images to my PC, where incidentally, I often process them in Photoshop on my PC (where I could use PS Bridge to quickly keyword from the keyword archive).   Then I have to upload them to an Ipad and from it to Stockimo, where infuriatingly any keywords in the metadata are not available, so I have the chore of keywording on the app which is desparately time consuming.

 

I can understand the requirement of the Stockimo App when news images need to be uploaded quickly, hence the Iphone Stockimo app.  Whilst we are waiting for the Android Stockimo App to appear, why can't a separate FTP site strictly for phonepics be introduced?  It would have the advantage that Android shooters wouldn't have to jump through all those rridiculous hoops - and perhaps the metadata could be retained.

 

Today, I can't upload my pics anyway from the Ipad, due to an apparent problem with the latest Apple OS and/or the Stockimo App, it's getting to the point where Stockimo is too much hassle for this Android user. And BTW, Data from Strategy Analytics reveals that Samsung sold 83.2 million smartphones worldwide in the March quarter of 2015, compared to Apple's 61 million iPhones sold during the same period. Which means that you're p*****g off an awful lot of potential contributors.

 

Somethings needs to be done.

I gave up waiting for the android app to appear.  Had to buy a second hand iphone just to submit to Stockimo.  Dropbox helps with moving photos from an android phone, to PC and then to the iphone.  Still find the iphone a pain to use compared to android, no idea why they are so popular.

I agree Stephen, iPhones are over-rated, over expensive and a pain.

 

For the reasons stated in my earlier email, along with the software problems that mean I can't upload pics, I'm giving up on Stockimo...

 

The two other agencies I send the images to make it easy and straight forward, and frankly I can't be bothered with the hassle, so no more Stockimo uploads.

I find the acceptance process a pain, sometimes rejected images are accepted after a heavy filter is added others I've resubmitted with subtle lens blur or saturation boost or crop and they get accepted. Definitely add caption and keywords after acceptance.

I don't understand (yet) why people are so eager to use Stockimo. I have an iPhone, so yes I tried it, got rejected a few times, and gave up on it. Apparently I'm better at regular postprocessing than at instagramifying photos. However, if I had no iPhone I'd never have tried Stockimo in the first place. I'm really surprised to read that some people bought used iPhones on eBay or do much effort to copy their non-iPhone pictures to an iPad to then submit them to Stockimo. Even more so as you just get 20% of the sales prices.

 

So, what am I missing? What's so great about Stockimo that (non-iPhone) people are taking great expense to submit?

You are not alone, Christoph. Same situation and thoughts. The only useful situation I see are news photos if the iPhone is the only available camera or you need to get the images live within minutes.

Those of us who were members of Alamy and signed up when they started Stockimo get the same 50% as the regular submissions. Not sure when that changed or in what way.

My photos were accepted on Stockimo last night - so might it simply be a question of waiting a couple of days? I've completed my Page: alamy/portfolio/linda,  but it is just sitting there, looking lonely and empty !!

Ah, yes this is one of the reasons (before lockdown) I considered getting a s/h iPhone after I was chucked off Live News.  So does s****i** have an option to submit as news - or how does it work? (it's still on my list of things to consider post-covid). TIA

There used to be a choice to upload as news but I think that is gone. You need to ask at  support@stockimo.com
