Jill Morgan Posted January 8, 2016 Share Posted January 8, 2016 I put off upgrading to the 2015 version of PS CC for quite awhile. Back in December I caved and upgraded. Having serious performance issues. Sometimes is runs okay, other times I could go and make a cup of coffee by the time it finishes with any adjustment. Seems to be an issue all over the web, tried a bunch of fixes (dropped history to 25, cache up to 2, disabled rulers, disabled generator plugin, no 3D) but none seem to work. And on the homepage where it shows recent images it never updates. Still shows the first images I used when I started the 2015 version. Before I go back to the 2014, did anyone here have the same issue and find a fix that isn't one of the above that I have already tried? I also have 6GB of RAM dedicated to PS. MDM Posted January 8, 2016 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Presumably you have tried turning off Use Graphics Processor in Prefs-Performance? That is often the source of performance problems with PS in general. And there is the ancient trick of deleting the PS prefs file which used to work a treat at times when the program went sluggish. I forget the command for that it is so long ago when I last did it but I think it is control-alt-shift (on a PC) when you are starting Photoshop. If that was happening to me, I would go back to the previous version (which I had to do with the Lightroom 6.2 debacle) and, if the problems remained, I would do a clean install of the OS. I've not had to do that since going back to the Mac but I used to do it at least once a year when I used Windows (XP) and it used to be very effective. But really for comfortable working, you shouldn't have to turn off those options. Also 6GB of RAM is on the small side nowadays depending on what OS you are using. RAM is very cheap these days and it can have a very significant effect. Photoshop is a heavy duty program and taxes the hardware. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When I searched online it seemed to be a persistent issue with a lot of people. As to the RAM, I have 8, usually have 5 dedicated to PS, but with the 2015 version so sluggish, upped it to 6 but it didn't help. My 2014 is back running fast as lightening on 5GB of RAM. Can't up the RAM on this particular laptop. Even guys with 64GB of RAM were complaining of super sluggish 2015 version. Jill Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Only other thing would be the scratch disk but if the same one is dedicated to both versions.....that wouldn't seem to be the problem. I have Windows 10 as well, but lots of the issues were with people with MACS. Gave up hunting and as I mentioned, the 2014 is blazing away. Could be some mismatch issue with my laptop, who knows. David Hewison Posted January 8, 2016 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Thats weird, I'm on the current CC Ps version on Win 10 running on allocated 6 out of 8 GB of ram, and it's blazingly fast. Mind you, Lr until the most recent update was bordering on sloth like performance. Sorted now thankfully. Handy tip for Lr - set the Camera Raw Cache Settings to 70GB's - for reasons unknown it turbo charges its performance. I recently added a second graphics card to my desktop because Photoshop and Lightroom were running a little slow. I have PS set to use up to 10 gb of ram on my desktop. The speed on my laptop is not all that great and before the latest update to PS the screen would flicker. If you are using a laptop with a twirlie hard drive you might consider switching it out to SSD. That will be my next upgrade as it seems that Windows 10 has also slowed things down a bit. So I could see possibly 2015 running a bit slower if it has a pile of upgrades, but the speed was ridiculous. Even with a bunch of stuff turned off. Sometimes it would run fine, other times a bog. Today even tried with PS being the only app running after a complete restart. Crawled. Not worrying too much as I can do just fine with the 2014 version. And it gives me my filters back. New programs always gobble up more RAM and processing power and often have features that I don't want or need. Also, I'm a man on a very slim budget, and it can be a lot cheaper to hang out on the receding edge of technology. Also running the latest 2015 CC Photoshop but on a Macbook Pro and it runs as fast as you like. If it helps, It's also on a SSD, dual graphics card, 16gb ram & i7 chipset 2.5GHz. I haven't changed any settings from install and as a rule, it finishes processing before I've even pressed go. I run an SSD too, an i7 chipset but with an integrated crappy Intel graphics chip, only 8gb ram & Win 10. My laptop is showing its age now, but still 2015 CC runs like lightening. Win 10 is flawless too. As with Duncan, all my settings are default. I've changed Lr's settings as per my last post which made a huge difference.. but that's not Ps. But doesn't matter now, sticking to 2014' Jill Jill, my current computer has a measly (these days) 4 GB of RAM, but all my old-ish photo software -- DxO Optics Pro 8, PS Elements, Photo Mechanic, etc. -- run swiftly on it, and they still do the job.
