Betty LaRue Posted July 5, 2015 Share Posted July 5, 2015 I updated what I thought was CC 2015 a couple of weeks ago. I have the newest version of PS, but my LR is still showing LR5. Isn't it 6 now? With the haze filter? I just went to the Adobe site and downloaded what I thought was the new LR, but all I got was the 5 again. What do I have to do to get 6? Guest Posted July 6, 2015 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Are you sure you don't have LR CC lurking around somewhere. IIRC, you should end up with both LR 5 and LR CC on your Mac. Go into the Creative Cloud App (should be on your desktop or in programs) and see what versions of LR are there installed and what's listed in previous versions. MDM Posted July 6, 2015 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I'm not on CC but have Lightroom 6 and it resides in the Applications folder as do all Mac applications so I would geuss that CC does not place its apps anywhere else (I could be wrong but they should still be somewhere in the Applications folder, perhaps in a folder called Creative Cloud or something. If I navigate to my Applications folder, there is a folder there called Adobe Lightroom. Inside this there should be a file called Adobe Lightroom.app. Unlike earlier versions, it does not have the version number. If you find this, then it is installed. All you need to do is double click it and of you go. If you select Adobe Lightroom.app and drag it to your desktop, you will create an alias to the app that is readily available. It doesn't actually move it so there is nothing to fear. There are numerous ways to go to your Applications folder but the simplest to my mind is to hold down command-shift-A when you are in the Finder (on your desktop that is) and the Applications folder will open. Alternatively, and maybe a lot simpler, do a Spotlight search (the magnifying glass towards the top right of your menu bar) for Adobe Lightroom.app. If it's there this should find it. Just hit show in finder and off you go. If you don't find it, then it's probbably not installed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So it may not apply if you are using a Mac. LR CC and LR 6 is actually the same software/application. The difference is only how you sign in. If you are CC subscriber, you sign in with your user name/password. If people like me insisted on old fashion way, aka LR6, you pay for the license, get a key, login in with the key. Be careful here, to activate the LR6, you not only need the new LR6 key, you also have to have the key for your previous version (LR5 in my case). Chris Add the full version to your cart and then click the edit above the price (top right), you then get options to change the full fat to skimmed. Betty LaRue Posted July 6, 2015 Author Share Posted July 6, 2015 After reading all of this, I wanted to say that I do go to my Applications folder a lot. Into CC, then the LR app. But it didn't say what version. Opening it, it appeared on my dock and when I hovered curser, it said LR 5. While I puzzled over this this morning, the CC app popped up and said I had updates available. I installed them and it appears I now have the latest. Previously, a few days ago, I installed through that same CC app and only got 5. I probably have at least 3 versions of five now, lol. Which begs the question, can I get rid of those? 6 isn't dependent on having 5, right? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Previous versions are always available via the CC manager app. Not sure why this is so difficult on a Mac, it's dead easy on a PC. It should dsiplay the serial number with the download. You may need the serial number for your previous version in order to install an upgrade. You will definitely need the key to your version of LR5 but, fortunately, I had this in my system. Was it worth it? The jury's still out but the filter brushes look useful and a very quick trial with HDR (which I hardly ever use) produces a result that is far more subtle than most other software. I used to merge in PS/ The ability to generate a raw (dng) merged image in LR is the major feature of LR6 and worth upgrading for. Not only do you get a raw merged image, but, once the preview has been generated, the merge runs in the background which frees up LR (and Photoshop) so that you can continue working.
