I've always said if I could choose a photographer to take my portrait it would be her. I think she would have showed me who I am. There are a lot of articles about her online. Photojournalism as it was once constituted may be on its last legs, but documentary photography is very much alive and well. She has always seemed very special to me. I don't do people and am somewhat in awe of those who do. Sometimes when photos are of "marginal" people -- as many of hers are -- I am uneasy about them. Are we being hurtful somehow -- disrespectful of their humanity? I don't feel that way about her images. She had such interest in people and compassion for them.
