Special Characters in Keywords

Does the Alamy Search Engine recognise special characters such as accents?

 

For example if I have a photo of a cafe which was taken in France, is it worth adding the keyword Café as well as Cafe?

 

Does anybody keyword in foreign languages as well? Does it help with distributor sales or do clients predominately search in English as it is an English site?

It looks to me that when I use an umlaut with a German name or word, it is dropped when the search terms are listed, so Osnabrück becomes osnabrck. When I go to manage images, it's there. English speakers will often drop the umlaut without adding the e behind the letter as Germans do, so Osnabrück becomes Osnabruck rather than Osnabrueck. I tend to use all variations when I can remember to do it.

I do know that accents and umlauts are ignored, so a search for café returns cafe and müller/muller likewise, but in the latter case I'd include mueller to be safe.

I put in a few major keywords in the relevant language as well as English, but there aren't many non-English searches outside proper nouns.

A case in point: Die Zauberflote. My caption has the umlaut but I didn't bother in the keywords and it comes up in searches either way. Only last week I had one searched with the umlaut.

It's also interesting the number of "misspellings" in transliterated words - some of them down to changing times and trends.  I particularly notice that when researching what other people have used as keywords for Japanese volcanoes and tourist sites.
