Would be nice for beginners here, if some of you more experienced contributors could give some hints on newbies portfolios and which images of the specific portfolios might do best here! george Posted September 28, 2014 Share Posted September 28, 2014 Ok, I will start, but I am by no means an expert! You need to include latin names for insects and plants. Also are you really sure that the bee is on a thistle? I don't think so. Try to research what other names are used, such as your 'ladybug', its commonly called a ladybird in UK and I personally would include the number of spots, i.e. 7 spotted etc (double what you can see if only one side on photo). It is emailed to everyone with a Yahoo email address. Like this morning it said top searches are Hells Angels, Cadillac Names, Fall Cruises, Kid's Halloween Costumes. Your eagle would be much better in more natural surroundings. You are in a competition against a lot of New York images that have been done much better than yours. These are the weakest. Your captions should answer the WHAT, WHERE, WHY, WHEN, and sometimes HOW aspects of the photograph. Use every caption space available to you. It takes courage to ask for a critique, but keep and never loose that attitude. Your images are you, and as a creative person you have to be willing to put yourself out there every day. Robert Brook Posted September 28, 2014 Share Posted September 28, 2014 I'm not an Alamy expert, but work with other agencies that are very successful in what they do, and have had some very good advice about what to avoid, if I am concerned about my wallet. Food, flowers, animals, nature are top of the list. Ok if you want to set up camp in the Arctic and shoot polar bears, or create a fully equipped studio kitchen, or hunt rare flowers in remote places. Otherwise you are just adding to the Alamy fodder (get 10k of them and it is possible - just possible - to delude yourself that doing that sort of thing makes some kind of business sense). Your star trails shows imagination and persistence, the composition is perfect for a cover (magazine, textbook or novel). You obviously enjoyed doing it. RenePi Posted October 1, 2014 Author Share Posted October 1, 2014 Many thanks to everyone of you here, giving me quite some detailed feedback, really means a lot to me as a newbie, much appreciated! Actually I don't have that much time, as I'm also quite busy with my master studies in Information Technology and my part-time job in semiconductor business. Have just started uploading to a few other stock agencies 1,2 years ago and at least am now also accepted here on Alamy! Quite some success for me personally At least now have the possibility to maybe give some of my photos a little bit of more value and maybe one day when i have finished my studies and have a bit more time I am able to concentrate better on this business and of course I know there are lots of highly experienced pro's out there which make competition even harder year by year. OK, so as many of you like my donut shots, I'll try to show you some more local traditional delicousness in the future.
