Scotland: If 'UK' is no longer ok!

Recommended Posts

Oh, joy.

If the referendum goes the way the polls are suggesting, we at Alamy may have to edit our Scotland keywords, though from what to what, I haven't got to grips with yet. But I do use 'UK' throughout my archive!

Think carefully before voting, everyone north of the border - every one counts!

Richard.

That's a point, but if I had any Photos from Scotland they would be keyworded "Scotland" and "UK" which would be fine because, at the time of taking, it was true.

After November 2016, though, things will change. Maybe for my London photos it will be OK for them to be keyworded, "UK" for Ununited Kingdom?

You know I hadn't even given that a thought until now. There would be no Glasgow, Scotland, UK. It would just be Glasgow, Scotland......

Not something I'm overly worried about if I'm honest. Most of the rest of the UK are so annoyed with Scotland at the moment that I doubt there will be any images bought outside of it. I am however getting a bit sick of getting shots of flying flags. All the media just seem to be using the same ones over and over.

They need to try something different, for example

Will be sad if the separation occurs, I might have to start a movement to have Tyneside become part of Scotland, because, sure as eggs, UK politics will become even more London-centric if Scotland breaks away.

I think doing a Putin would be Dave proclaiming that the majority of Scots want a Tory government and sending in the troops to annexe Scotland.

You are far from the first person on Tyneside who has suggested this to me....   I don't know how far south the feeling goes.

I had wondered about whether we'd have to change the keywords - I have already had to go through my meagre port on Alamy to change commas and also to change location data after the discussion about the location field not being searchable.....

Can Alamy not come up with a way to do a bulk find and replace on image data?  It's such a faff having to do images individually - or is there that facility and I am missing it?

Darn will have to delete UK from 2223 images on here.  Not in Scotland but I'm heading up there to enter a sneaky "NO" vote or two. (Less trouble.)

Don't know about independence. But there's a growing movement in Yorkshire that believes that if Scotland is being offered Devo Max to stay in the UK, then Yorkshire should also be offered devolution of some kind. I wouldn't be at all surprised if other regions with a strong regional identity feel the same way.

I'll back you on that, if I may throw in my ancestral home of God's Own.  Lancashire had better join the South though.

Edit:  Well I missed Alan's post above.  He puts it far more eloquently than I have.

Perhaps Scotland can join up with Quebec. It would make for some interesting accents.

Vikings.

More interesting accents.

Some vocabulary in common already...

Think I'd give Haggis Poutine a wide berth, though.

Belongs on the same distant shelf in the outhouse as the Swedish Surströmming

Without wishing to be disparaging, a large number of non-UK countries struggle to understand the distinction anyway. President Bush Jnr. was famous for asking Charlotte Church what state Wales was in. So in all probability it will be a non-event for Alamy contributors. As for the various residents..........who knows?

Folks can’t even decide on a name up here. Where do I live? Well, take your pick from Western Isles, Outer Hebrides, Long Island, Innes Gall or Eilean Siar, depending on your political and Gaelic leanings. I suggest you should be prepared to start adding keywords such as Democratic Republic of Scotland, Alba etc... :)

Mary Queen of Scots spoke fluent French and married into French royalty. There is still a strong Stuart influence in Normandy/Brittany.

I had a few views yesterday on the search 'scotland flag scotland' in which none of the images I actually have of the Scotland flag showed up because, I assume, I don't have the words in that order with scotland repeated. Not one of the images that were viewed had a saltire in them.

That's odd because I did that search too and all mine came up and I don't have that particular phrase in my keywords.

Maybe I'm just too deep in the barrel of 50m to be viewed :)

I was happily sitting in my jammies last night, on the phone to my sister when she asked whether I'd seen any action round the corner what with Gordon Brown giving his speech about a new timetable for change at the local miner's club....  500 yards away from me.

So, I shoved my jeans on and marched along there with my camera. No, I don't really think that the world needs another picture of Brown, but it seemed like a newsworthy thing.  I was the only person there with a camera - apart from the telly people and two YES supporters, I was the only other person there, in fact.

Unfortunately we didn't seem him at all. The telly people had to do their report without him, even though they were waiting for him to come out ( I think he went out the back door). So I watched the reporter do his live broadcast for the ten o' clock news and just lamented on my missed opportunity while trying to keep my jeans and jammies combo out of shot.

Bummer.

There were photographers inside the hall. There are quite a few photos on the newspaper websites.

Yes, I realised that afterwards, of course.  No one I know round here knew it was even happening - invited audience apparently.

Of course there would be photographers there - I just got a bit carried away!  Obviously have to take KMs advice and improve my awareness of what's going on around me.  Typical.
