What is considered as a good CTR & how to improve

Like many i am confused in regard to how to improve my CTR,  i also have no idea what the average CTR is.

 

My CTR for last month is 0.50,  i would think not so great,  but then again maybe it's average.

 

Any folk's out there willing to share?

 The average is right next to your own CTR for the last month. If you want to improve it, edit harder, be more precise with keywords. I see lots of similars which will cause a lower CTR. Remember that with large pixel sensors you can crop a horizontal from a vertical and vice-versa. Shoot with that in mind. There was a very good SAA article on this many years ago and should be archived somewhere - it was in their Keywords mag (think that was the name of it).

 

I certainly can't get any agency, editorial or commercial, of mine to take horizontal and verticals of same scene, edit like an agency and you'll earn a better CTR. However, CTR is not the only factor in rank.....sales ratio seems to be an even bigger factor IME.

 

Forgot to say, mine's been roughly a little over twice the Alamy average for many years and rank is not too bad...

You are distinctly average according to Alamy!!

 

They say the average CTR was 0.50 for last month.

 

Don't worry you are in good company - my average was 0.51 for last month!

My advice, fwiw:

 

Forget about working on your CTR per se . . . unless stats mean more to you than eating that is. Concentrate instead on improving sales. Much more rewarding IMO.

As far as I know, the only way is to get buyers to click on your images when they appear in a search. And the only way to do that is to have images which are more commercially attractive than the others.

So just one small thing is lacking - to know exactly what is commercially attractive to buyers. ) I have no idea about that. ((***

Your CTR is average which is a jolly good start. You need to keep your key wording tight and precise so that your pics do not get selected in an irrelevant search. Similars are to be avoided. If in time - for me two years - your pics have not been zoomed or sold then transfer them to another pseudo. Remember that only known account customers register in the zooms and clicks so the CTR is at best a guide. Ranking is determined by sales and CTR. In this context the BHZ protocol is also a useful guide. The downside of BHZ is that only a third of contributors participate. My philosophy is that if you are on the right side of average then you must be on the right track.

Yes, watching all those numbers is like watching hamsters run around on a wheel.

 

My CTR is average (.50 for Aug), my images show up well in relevant searchs and I get zooms (which rarely turn into sales). Oh, and I still have a highish placement on that BHZ nonsense.

 

The numbers I'm interested in are 1. sales, 2. price, and 3. growing my collection so it's larger, varied and of better quality. If I want something to think about, other than subjects to shoot, I think about better, tighter keywording.

Mine is normally 0 but average is .96 at the moment - result of a small strange port :)

 

Am I right in thinking that a "view" only means returned by the search and may not even have appeared on the screen depending on how many pages the buyer is willing to plod through?

My belief is that a "view" is a result that had been presented to the viewer on a page (they may not have scrolled down to it though). If it was returned anywhere in a search then the views figure would be much, much higher on simple or popular subjects " for example for "Nottingham" I would see around 1,400 each time, and I don't. Also if you look at the total views for a search in measures they are usually multiples of 120, a page in other words, although there are odd exceptions which may be due to user options or limited number of images for the search.

Your keywording looks better than mine, Paul.  :)  I was comparing the importance of activities that we contributors do.

Thanks for the compliment Ed, i think i might over do it with words such as nobody, daytime,outside etc, and adding where the image was taken such as region and country as this is already covered in the description.

 

 A sore point with me is agencies with their ability to be on the 1st pages due to sales volumes despite having many non relevant keywords.

Paul, the "description" field isn't searchable. I almost always put location info in the caption and keywords (often in the essential keywords). Very important IMO. Clients often use general location terms like "Vancouver," "Timbuktu," etc.

I was mistaken. My real CTR is 0.20. ) (((

So I have just created a number of new pseudonims (I guess, they work like topical folders) and sorted all of my photos according to new pseudos.

I also changed my default pseudonim because it was burdened with a couple of hundreds of photos, waiting for deletion.

Hope, this new and fresh start can help me to increase visibility.

Am I right? )

Above average CTR figures but don't really know if they are a good sign or not. It's only a total of 14 zooms.

 

March 4.29

April 0.00

May 1.96

June 1.42

July 2.22

August 2.50

 

Overall CTR since I started in January 2014 is 1.82. Not a lot of views but they are beginning to produce sales. Mind you, I'm fairly specialised and keyword tightly.

Well, I have a question.

I created a number of pseudonims and sorted all my images according to them yesterday.

I also changed my default pseudonim also yesterday.

Alamy measures section still shows my old default pseudonim

 

The question is if all the pseudonims will be displayed in Alamy Measures section of My Alamy because they will have different CTR?
